When you look at the success that Dino had prior becoming SUs head coach its obvious that some of it is attributable to his scheme being difficult to plan against. At his previous stops it was 2 years and gone. Teams didn't really have a chance to establish a solid book on how to stop his style and speed of play. Although we didn't have winning records in his first two years on the Hill we did win some great games and played some great programs close. Last year we rode a generational talent to amazing season. This year we crashed. Out of the many reasons, weak OL, inexperienced QB, injuries to key players... I think that we also fell victim to familiarity. Teams have a book on Dinos O and without Erics improvising we have become predictable and easier to defend. Bailey's recent Pod C speaks to this. Specifically the WR routes being stale and predictable. Dino loves his phrases and analogies. Lets hope this off season he focuses on creating some new wrinkles and schemes not just as a result of a new DC but hopefully across the board and his team is green and growing again next season.

In fact, Dino inherited generational QB talent at each of his stops. In each case, QBs who had started early in their careers and who were primed to break out in a fast paced, pass heavy, spread offense. He also had a running attack to balance the offense.

Even with our 2019 limitations, the offense became much better in the last two games, with better OL play after the shuffle, and with a better running attack. The offense already looks promising for 2020, with 8 starters returning, and promising young talent in Benson, Jordan, and Courtney Jackson. I think the WR routes will not be any issue, as Devito improves.

The fat pirate at BG was a generational talent? Probably more a product of the system

qb and leadership does not seem to match. i like devito, i hope he develops into a leader. he sure has guts . dino has leadership issues in all areas. right now. coaching and recruiting is my biggest concern. i am concerned about his stubbornness and how that impacts creativity as well decision making.
i kind of look forward to saturdays game. a friend of mine a hs school coach in nj is coming up to the game with me. i expect /hope he gives some other guys some play

Nope. He had a big year before Dino arrived. BGSU slumped in Dino’s first year after Johnson was hurt, and revived the next when Johnson returned.

Adding some stats: even though he was injured early in his junior season, Johnson is the 3rd ranking career passer in BGSU history, has the highest completion percentage, 2nd highest QB rating. His senior year (with Dino) was his best year, but his 10 win sophomore year was also outstanding (with Dave Clauson).

Still not a generational player. Just my opinion

The difference between the green and growing or red and rotten is in the recruiting, coaching and development of the players. Coach Dino Babers has to make some program changing decisions come 1Dec19 that will impact the direction his program takes for the remainder of the time he is the head coach at Syracuse University. When you have a quarterback who has been in the program for three years and played last year during extended important periods of games making some of the mistakes he has made this year, that's coaching and development. When you have the same situation at linebacker for the third year in a row where you had two players with minimal playing experience playing the overwhelming majority of the defensive snaps and not really playing well and others who have flashed in games in very limited opportunities (Tyrell Richards, Juan Wallace, Geoff Cantin-Arku) not getting any more experience, you create the same situation three years in a row and then you wonder why Syracuse is so bad against the rush. I do agree with all of you that recruiting must improve, but until it does, what really needs to improve is the coaching and development of the players. Play calling on the offensive side often times does not put the players in the best opportunities to succeed. Based on four years of the same defensive scheme and the best you have achieved is being ranked 88th out of 130 probably suggests you find a scheme that best suits the players you have. In order for this program to get competitive again and remain competitive, changes in the staff need to be made. Go Orange!!!!!!

I think TD needs to become a true leader real fast. If I remembering correctly, it doesn't sound like he was able to keep all of the receivers on campus last summer to put in the extra work, and it showed. Hopefully, after a season like this he can put his leadership qualities to the test, gather the WRs for the summer, and put in the extra work. The timing seemed off all season for the most part, and some open throws were missed or dropped. Hopefully, a strong summer of route running and working together can fix these issues.

If having the book is the case it would be the same for any tenured coach. You can always tell what someone is doing in football save a philly special. It’s about lining up the right leverages to force players where you want them to go in order to throw the timing off. Our players aren't recognizing what they need to do in game to counteract that. I’m 100% sure they are being taught how to. The receivers just need to recognize leverage the DBs are playing and where a bracket might be. The line needs to communicate and make sure they understand their assignments and the QB has to be aware of all of it. It comes down to players doing their job and making plays. Unless you want to run a trick play offense and see how many mental mistakes happen as a result of that.
