Green on court side seats

Whoever approved this promotion should be fired.
So a major corporation donates how many thousands of badly needed dollars to SU Athletics to serve as game sponsor, distributes thousands of free T shirts to promote their green energy initiatives and the person who solicited it should be fired because the shirts don’t look good on tv?
BTW those who actually attend the games and support the program will tell you this is at least the third consecutive year National Grid has run a similar program. Previously the giveaway has been cheaper green rally towels. Maybe complaints should be reserved for the individuals and businesses that do nothing to support the program and criticize those who do.

I was mad that I didn’t get a shirt.
only available in 100 and 200 sections
I sit in 309.
They should have brought the unused ones up at halftime.
The ones I saw people wearing actually looked nice.

Probably green with envy. ;)

They should have added some pink to go old school SU then!

Sorry but no marketing team worth their salt would've approved this promotion/giveaway.

Not one person put on the shirts, they all sat on the backs of seats from what I could see on TV. Every SU fan watching questioned how ridiculous it is, it's bad press for them.

You can promote green energy initiatives with an orange t-shirt. Literally took two seconds to come up with this tag line - "Go Green with the Orange".

Guess that’s the problem. You were watching on tv. Plenty of people put them on and many more took them home.
If every SU fan questioning the promotion sent a contribution to Orange United in the time it took to complain about a company showing major support of the University and Athletics Department, we would be in a much better position. Complain about entities that don’t support instead of criticizing the color of a giveaway from a company who does.

Idk. If they just did orange shirts or stuck with the towels, or whatever, nobody would be talking about it. The green shirts created a lot more engagement. Even if it’s negative engagement, that’s fine because National Grid isn’t selling anything. It’s not like they can make people mad and worry about them going to a competitor..

Also, I’d bet they were planning on the Dome being a lot less empty.

If National Grid said they want to do this for the Notre Dame game, you think the AD would let that happen? Of course not. If Syracuse was a top 10 school this year, do you think the AD would let this promotion happen? Of course not.

The school should have better alignment with their partners to do things that fit into their "brand". It reflects poorly on the Syracuse brand and allows us to be a punching bag.

The marketing goals of National Grid for their partnership should not be more important than those of Syracuse University, regardless of their contribution.

Spend the money on NIL instead of ugly green tee shirts.

Disagree. Should be a symbiotic relationship that benefits both parties. National Grid promoting green energy initiatives and SU reaping a financial benefit. Had the promotion been rejected, SU Athletics would have certainly suffered. Not sure National Grid would have.
In a time when the Athletics Department is experiencing sleepless nights trying to cement a plan to fund $20MM plus in direct payments to athletes and dozens of additional scholarships across the portfolio of sports, the last thing any fan should do is criticize a promotion featuring a neutral color giveaway that aligns with the sponsor’s messaging. We should be applauding the involvement.

OTOH if they DID do this for the Notre Dame game I would be as up in arms as you!

I agree with you on a lot of things, but your last sentence proves my point.

Syracuse could have presented a ton of other options other than a green t-shirt. As you noted, they've done green rally towels before. The fact that they deemed that an appropriate giveaway, is an indictment on the marketing arm of the athletic department.

National Grid would not be pulling a sponsorship because SU said "a green t-shirt giveaway does not align with our brand marketing plan".
