Had a forensic psychologist in my class today talk about the Sandusky case made some good points.

People are asking when this will show up on Law & Order SVU. There's plenty of speculaiton on the IMDB that it already has:

The question is: if the SVU writers were all over this, where was ESPN and the rest of the national press?

As much as we all feel strongly that he is a filthy pedophile, he is still free and technically innocent until proven guilty. So, you can say McQuery could have continued to tell this person and that person, but when you feel you've done all you can and nothing else is being done, what else could you possibly do?

He's not technically innocent at all. He admitted to Costas that he inappropriately touched the kids (albeit "without sexual intent" as he put it) and showered with them. That's not even taking into account how many liberties he took in his relationships that may not have been illegal but were distasteful -- having kids sleep over doing a ton of stuff one-on-one, unsupervised with no apparent consent from parents, etc.

And how in the world do you feel he felt he did all he could have done? The media would have salivated for this tip. And he could have left.

I don't know. Listen, I'm not saying the guy is THE bad guy, but he simply didn't get done what needed to get done. Again, I'm not a harda$$ about this stuff normally but he witnessed the rape of child and KNEW Sandusky always had kids around. He's got to get someone to listen to him and take care of the situation.

His two main points were that Sexual predators of the highest degree look or the best way to acquire as many targets as possible as in example Sandusky in second mile.

His second point was very interesting and was about the graduate assistant. He pretty much said that people are going way too hard on the grad assistant and that although most of us say that if we were in his position we would have kicked Sandusky's a** or gone straight to the police, the reality is that most of us would have done exactly what he did and go to paterno or call someone like our dad first. Keep in mind this is from a licensed forensic psychologist who specialises in cases dealing with sexual predators.

I respect this man's knowledge but I think Mcquery's (sic)? actions are more a sign of no guts to do something immediately like kick the guy's ass. I assure you he is gutless. I know what I would have done and includes a bit of violence like putting some teeth down his throat. If not a kick to his groin. C'omon I can't be alone on that. At his age Mcquery I was 6'4"and 200lbs and could take care of myself and anyone who might have needed help. I never looked for trouble but I wouldn't run away from a kid being raped or sodomized. There are moments in life when you gotta stand up and say no. If its with your fists,so be it if you happen into a disgraceful situation you must as a decent person act. Its not bravado,its doing right. If the guy was armed I might think twice but otherwise its going to be a problem for the other guy which he probably wasn't expecting. You can't just walk away. I stand by that. OK I can't stand by that any more but the spirit is willing if the body is not

In your mind and mine, he's guilty as all hell, but unfortunately he's still a free(technically innocent) man. He has admitted to legal (although gross and inappropriate) touching and other actions. Without evidence they will not be able to convict. And as we can see with the Fine allegations, a media source will not and should not run a story without corraborating the story.

Could McQueery have done more? Sure he could have physically threatened Sandusky to confess or torture him or plenty of other probably illegal things to get him to admit it, but let's be honest here, he's not a trained investigator or vigilante or whatever. He told plenty of people (or at least plenty of people found out about it) and he couldn't get anywhere with it. There's a point, especially in Happy Valley, where no matter who you tell they're not going to believe one person's account of a story. There are limitations to what McQueery could have accomplished on his own.

When accused the person who stands accused is ruined for life which makes this mor damning than the Salem accusers. If its true thts fine but if its not true the stain is there forever.For the purpose of discussion,lets say Bernie is innocent. From now on any activity involving the team and children will be looked at with suspicion andtrpidation and all eyes will be on Fine for his reaction. No its not fair but that is going to be the rest of his life at this time unless an unequivocal not true is found to be the truth here. Sorry Bernie Those are the cards you have been dealt.What can he do?I think in his case he migt want to consider Europe with a new srt in life with his family. Even there he might be recognized. A E-mailer whom Brent Axe knew but did not identify said that he had been abused as a teenager and later accused of abuse as an adult. He described both experiences and while he didn't say this, I got the impression that being falsely accused was at laast as traumatic as being abused.
