On this date in 2003 we became National Champions for the first time. Announced by Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser today on PTI. Congratulations to Syracuse University basketball! The show had a picture of Carmelo and Gerry celebrating after the win. Carmelo was rookie of the month every month during the season his first year and yet:

Carmelo did win Rookie of the Month six times—the only player in NBA history to do so and not win Rookie of the Year—highlighting how tight the race was.
