Happy Birthday Dion

Have we ever seen such a relentless, attacking scorer on the college level?

At Syracuse - of recent times, Judah is up there but not sure if he did it as well as Dion. Throw in the step back outside shot and his long range ability, I think Dion takes this argument.

Anywhere else? Iverson was special but he went to Georgetown so I will swallow my vomit.

I've got nothing else :)

You could take a look at Dior Johnson, now.

Happy birthday Dion. 2012 was special.

I could. And I did. Cause you baited me into it. Like moth to flame. :)

Although I believe he's injured,
56.2 FG %
64.7 Three % - what the heckfire?

And for all of you Orange free throw junkies, this one might sting a bit:
85.7 FT %

Ah, we as a fan base will never be happy.
It's part of our charm.

His spin move was unstoppable and a thing of beauty. I don’t remember him ever not finishing at the rim.

Ugh, for my money, that 2011-12 team is up there with the best ever at 'Cuse. I get no natty or FF, but 30-1 in the regular season, with a lottery pick coming off the bench? Freaking Ohio State.
Technically TWO lottery picks coming off the bench with Dion and MCW. 2010 and 2012 were such fun seasons that unfortunately ended with “what ifs”.

Refs: we just called two fouls on OSt's star, we must make up for that by calling 15 more fouls on SU than they deserve.

I'll tell ya, my friend. Boeheim could have two more chips between those 2009-10 and 2011-12 teams. Or at least two more FFs. Yuck to Butler, Ohio State, Jared Sullinger and the refs lol.

It was an ultra-frustrating game to watch. I almost always refrain from blaming the refs, but that game was ridiculous with the foul calling. Ohio State took 42 free throws. Lol.

The refs and of course Mr Hands, Aaron Craft uggh. Dion fouling out in just 20 minutes and Southerland in just 11 minutes while CJ, Christmas and Keita each had 4. Craft fouled out with a minute to go in the game, while no other OSU player had more than 3 fouls. That wasn’t a game decided by the players. Bad memory.

Bad/non calls by refs change the outcome of many more close games then many people realize. Many of the bad calls are not due to corruption, or other nefarious reasons; a lot of them are due to variation of the refs changing the nature of their calls from game to game, and within a game, ala OSt.

Dion is my favorite all time SU player.
Always gave 150% on the court.
His NBA career was a great big what could have been though.
One of the most talented orange players ever, sheer raw talent
I hate the NBA but watched every Thunder and Heat game he played in.
If Durant stays at OKC, they likely keep Dion and try for an nba title with Westbrook.
Who would have thought that broken ankle he suffered in the Heat game would basically be the end of his career? I still remember that incredible buzzer beater he hit with the Heat to beat Golden State. And the pose!
He sank into a very dark place emotionally after the injury which brought on incidents like the gummies on the plane. And basically being thrown off the team
He got a nba ring with the Lakers but not the way he hoped,
From all I have heard, he seemed like a genuinely nice dude.
I hope he is doing well😀

I’ve mentioned before that I really started watching in 2007.

My favorite individual players to watch have been Jonny Flynn and Dion Waiters.

Waiters off the bench was perfect for that team but I really wish we got to see a high usage starting Dion. Coulda lead the nation in scoring.

Edit: also the 2k memes. His voice acting was top tier.

I know exactly what you’re talking about. He would do a hard dribble to the left with his right hand, bringing the defender to his left, and then do a 360 spin to the right for an easy layup.

No, don't blame Ohio State. Blame the SU academic dept and Daryl Gross. With Fab the refs wouldn't give Sullinger all the calls.

I can't think of a more explosive player in an Orange uniform. Flynn is the only one I can think of off the top of my head who is in the conversation.

Well, maybe "Dirty South" James Southerland?

Oh wait, that's the wrong kind of "explosive". 😂

But seriously - c'mon.
Stevie Thompson, Dave Johnson, Hak, Wes, and Jerami (among others) would all like a word.

Love me some Waiters Island, but he's literally probably not in the top 10 of most explosive Cuse players.
On the current team, I'd put both Will Kyle and Sadiq ahead of Dion in terms of being explosive.
