Harbaugh: "What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive! - Sir Walter Scott"

While the article is right, it's a blatant attack on Harbaugh for a tactic done by many coaches across the country year in and year out.

Yes bringing it to light is good, yes campaigning for an early signing day is good for the kids, but making it seem like Harbaugh is the only guy to do so is pretty deceiving as well.

"He is the Bill Belichick (Spygate, Deflategate) of the college game. In their worlds, your record trumps your reputation."

Ouch!

It's funny that they state coaches don't want an early signing period. Haven't we heard some coaches argue for an early signing period?

The factories may not want them but coaches from programs that don't finish in the Top 10-20 in recruiting rankings every year sure do.

This is such a common practice, it's not factory specific. Shuffling goes on at every level of the collegiate game. Anywhere there is # limitations you'll see this. Don't be mad at Harbaugh specifically, go to the source and do something about the system in place.

This smells like sour grapes somewhere someplace. If not, then it's a simple minded approach to bringing it to light.

I used to care about this stuff, but at this point enough kids bail on schools that I can't feel bad when it goes the other way.

Weirdo Harbaugh slept over at a recruits house the other night. Not sure how that is not against the rules but he did and it's seriously weirdo . . . . .
Yep, I've always felt he was one strange bird and behavior like this only reinforces that feeling.

He learned from the best.

What makes any of you think we are not doing it as we speak. Tell kids we will honor their scholarships then they don't hear from us. Sound familiar ?

I don't understand why kids can't sign whenever they want. That would clear up all of these issues. It would eliminate the entire idea of a "verbal". Either the kid has signed or he has not signed. Once signed, neither the school, nor the kid can back out without facing consequences. The school has to honor the scholarship and the kid has to take a year to transfer if he wants out.

The big elite programs don't want that. It offers no benefit to them.

from Rovals:
I say that because two weeks ago, when we began dropping major hints in our Inside The Fort columns, we were told that Swenson was no longer a Michigan commitment. We have also been told by multiple sources (though admittedly one of those sources on the Michigan side) that the Swensons were told back in November that he no longer held a committable offer.

We were also told by a source out of Downers Grove that the Michigan coaches asked Swenson to camp at U-M over the summer so the staff could properly evaluate him (he refused) and we were told that it was understood that Swenson’s senior year would serve as an evaluation period because this coaching staff had never seen him in-person and wanted to know if he was a good fit for the program.

Don't you think that we can honor a scholarship and also tell the kid that he probably won't play here because he doesn't fit well with the new system? He would still get a damn good education.

Not debating that about great education but look whst happened to the Aquinas kid this year that is what made him decommit

Honoring the scholarship is all,the school is,required to do.

What did Bill Belichick have to do with deflategate? If there even was a deflategate.
