for usually being on the field 2/3 of the time, they really showed to be very good. Get the starting QB back from injury, spread the field and let Hunt operate as he will and SU can be back at a bowl next season, no problem.

Except a lot of that defense will not be returning. Probably can rebuild the DL, but the five best guys in the back 7 (Lynch, Davis, Kelly, Eskridge and Reddish) will not be easy to replace. The offense with Hunt back will need to step up.

The offense was so bad that it was easy to forget that we had a defense that a number of ranked teams would trade theirs for. Terrific job on that side of the ball. A lot of our opponents yardage during the year was gained late in games when worn down by total inefficiency, inability, lack of talent, lack of health, lack of cohesion, lack of mental aptitude, inability of RB's to see hole, inability of OL to create holes, lack of a good WR for about 8 years running now, and...well...this whole"need to have a QB in there to play the game" thing. Ok, I'm done.

I don't know if we have anyone better, but Eskridge was bad this year. I've never seen a safety tuck his arms and dive at a ball-carrier's feet so many times before.

I have a feeling that many of the youngsters on the roster will be able to plug and play where the Seniors this year played. Lynch and Davis will be hard to replace, but there's a bunch of talented LBs on the roster. Reddish is the biggest loss on the D for next year. He developed into a solid draft pick. How many times did he have a 1-on-1 and let the guy past him? Can count the number of times on my uncle "half-hand Harry"'s left hand. Excited for the young guys to step up.

Both seasons under Shafer, the defense started out underperforming at the beginning of the year, but turned it around at the 1/3 mark of the season to end up being quite formidable. I like what the coaches are doing on the defensive side of the ball.

Offensively is where the coaching staff seems lost.
