Class of 2020 SG/SF Nate Kingz (OR) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/2/25)

Who said that the reason they left was money?
Both have said that they love Red and love Syracuse. In your view, what do you suspect is the reason they decided to portal? Is it money? Or more about Playing time (their fear they won’t get any next year at Syracuse)?

I think 12 would be a hard get. We have two remaining players and 4 frosh. It would be tough to get 6 players in the portal. I'm hoping for four good ones.
so a 10 man roster??

yikes that smells of midseason over again too

I would imagine that the implication is that the program was going in another direction and they were informed of that.

The question isn't whether we could find 15 guys to give ships to. The point is, what is the point. They won't help us.
i respect your posts but totally disagree here. BIG TIME

guys like Marek and Petar werent even ranked as recruits...getting comparable guys to fill out the bench is a no-brainer

and you never know...they could even be better than those 2...seems most teams we play have a pretty good international player or two...Duke has a 7 footer from turkey that hasnt played this year FWIW

this narrative that you couldnt get basketball players to want to play for Syracuse needs to die

Good grief. I just can't even answer a post like that. Kids want money and playing time. There is only so much playing time available. We aren't going to play 12 guys the minutes they want.
This. It’s the new reality. The 11 and 12 guys are probably always going to be guys that will struggle to ever get pt, or high risk high reward types.

Yeah. Well, I disagree with you as well. We aren't going to be able to bring in 9 players that can help us. Quite frankly, I think that is ridiculous. What kind of quality player will want to go to Syracuse and be the 15th guy?

I feel like we look for dudes that are coming off of bad injuries there.

I have a poster telling me that we should be able to bring in 15 good guys. I just don't see that as a possibility. If we can get to 11, I would be very happy with that.

Agree. Thought that Petar was kind of ideal to have as an international who provides depth at tougher to fill positions, but might not really ever be a major contributor. If he became one, then nice bonus. To that end, I figure we are looking for another big, hopefully Kingz as a wing add, and a top flight PG. Then maybe an international player (Engelstad contacts?), or other minimal NIL players. Figure we will need to spend our budget on the top 6 plus the freshman.

Jesus had 12 apostles, so maybe that's the way to go.

Of course, one was Judas, so if we can avoid that guy, maybe 11 is the move.

Exactly, Playing time next year for the 2 and 4's is going to be hard to get. Going from 15 mins a game to 3rd string behind McD's and top 30 guys is maybe not the odds they're looking for.

What I am saying is what kind of quality player would come here knowing they weren't going to play? We only have 2 players back. We have 4 frosh coming in. Who is going to come here to be the 12, 13, 14, and 15th player?
Total logic here. The board keeps talking about "that point guard" we have to get but no one has anyone we could look at who has a great handle, can bring the ball up w/o getting his pocket picked,
is a great distributor/passer, can slash for points, get fouled a lot and steal everybody's ball. Is there anyone out there not already taken who would even look at us w/o a Big Bag waiting for him?

Probably not, because elite point guards are going to be highly coveted, and be VERY expensive due to having lots of options.

That doesn't necessarily mean that the only way to fill this roster void is to go chase a high profile transfer from a P5-- might need to focus on a diamond in the rough type who is undervalued, or who killed it at a mid-major. Going to be an interesting development, given how important quality PG play is in collegiate basketball.

How the PG question gets answered will probably be the single most important determinant of how next season will unfold, IMO.

petar was the 12th schollie player signed last year...so I would aim to fill out the spots 12-15 with players of similar ilk...players who hustle, players who have the requisite size/height, and players who are willing to be at the end of the bench

i would target international players for those slots or low major juco players etc...

duke has a 7 footer from turkey that hasnt played this year, for example

youre not looking for the world to sign up...simply 3 or 4 guys

you never know if you may need an extra 7 footer at some point in the year etc...and you might just luck out and find a guy like marek or maliq who were both examples of lowly/unranked players who did well

might it be slightly difficult? sure...but it is far from impossible

Okay, we get 4 good players from the portal. I would use a ‘ship’ on a fifth HS recruit with the idea he would be a developmental piece for the future. Similar to the way some posters look at Aaron Womack, whom I hope will be able to contribute next year.

Look at/for a flyer on a third ball handler like Tyler Jackson whom many posters do not seem to care for. He is a good friend of Kiyan Anthony. He would be used as a game is over filler until his skills mature.
