It's my recollection that there was no fan base that screamed louder and longer about the treachery of the ACC and the betrayal by BC and VT than the WVU crowd. Their board was a veritable font of anger. No where else did I see as many posts attempting to tie BC to to the woes of the Catholic clergy.
Not that I care. WVU and SU are free to go to whatever conference they choose as long as they obey the contract they signed. I felt that same way about Miami and VT and BC.
But it would be nice if there was some embarrassment on the part of their fans. Some sort of group statement that alll the shouting in 2003 was not about principle at all, but really just self-serving crap driven by a desire to protect the WVU program.
An exit fee well in excess of what is called for in the by-laws sounds a little like extortion, but also could mean "damages". Losing them from our schedule (along with TCU) sounds to me like we should share some of those damages.
So do we get some?Extortion?
It's a negotiated settlement. It's in excess of what is in the by-laws, because there are multiple conditions to leaving the conference. It's time and money. The time is there to help the conference find replacement members. All that is is buying down the time condition, it's NOT extortion.
With the recent addition of Boise State University, the University of Central Florida, the University of Houston, the University of Memphis, San Diego State University, Southern Methodist University, and the United States Naval Academy, the future for the BIG EAST Conference has never been brighter.
Now that's funny right there!
