Good stuff... Changing the way the game's played within its own framework.

I know this team's been discussed here before, but, this gives insight into his thought process.

Philosophy works a bit better at the HS level as KOs and punts travel about 20 yards less than in college.

You know what I love best about this punting stuff? Tens of thousands of fans at stadiums all over the country, people who supposedly know nothing, have known the probabilities for decades. They were dismissed by the so called experts for booing punting decisions, what do they know.

But those crowd had wisdom, they were right

Sounds great in theory but maybe not so good in practice. In 2003 Manny Matsakis of Texas State went for it on 4th down about 10 times against New Mexico. His team lost 72-8 and got the distinction of being scored upon twice by a 140 pound girl.

he should've not tried and lost 52-8 and it would be one of a thousand forgotten cupcake games

Agreed...

How about:
  • don't punt when you get beyond your own 40
  • no FGs, when behind, from inside the 5/10
  • Try an onside kick once or twice a game?
At the very least you'll distract their coaches during game planning.

Unless the FG ties the game at the end of regulation - or very close to the end of regulation. Otherwise, yes!

The only thing I'll say, is it would skew the percentages if you didn't onside kick everytime. If the percentage that the other team scores from the 50 ish or their 25 is negligible, onside kick everytime.

so they were a really talented team trying some cool stuff.. does it work if you are a really bad team too? our HS can barely hand off let alone pitch it all over..

i do think more HS teams should skip punting since 25 yds is a great punt anyway.

pulaski was bad before kelly started doing this stuff. i'm sure they're talented now because people want to play for him.

same thing will happen here - in a few years, we'll have people saying that babers stuff works because they're really talented and they'll forget the years before they were loaded
