They take the following 2 things into consideration

1 - the eye test. "Listen guys syracuse lost 3 close games on the road to 3 of the best teams in the country. Is monmouth gonna be tied with 5 minutes left at virginia? Or up 8 in 2nd half at miami? How many bubble teams syracuse is competing with are gonna be down 1 with a minute left at north carolina? These are road games against 1 and 2 seeds. Theyve only gotten blown out in a couple games, they can compete with any team in the country, and theyve proven that on the road, not at home". Plus our 2 best wins were also away from home. Do any other bubble teams have better 2 wins than at duke and texas a&m neutral?

2 - our 3 worst losses were without boeheim. Boom.

Theres always a surprising team that gets in and jay bilas will interview a committee member and say "how did team x get in over team y who everyone had in" and i can easily see the committe member giving the above reasons for putting stracuse in.

But having said that, i fully expect us to be out, but no matter what happens until selection sunday i think we'll have a chance.

I guarantee theres gonna be 1 team that gets in that most people didnt think would get in. There almost always is. We have a couple valid reasons that it could be us. I dont think it will be us but we're definitely not 100% out.

Even if every bracketologist has us last 4 out, which im sure is where theyll have us, its not that big a leap from last 4 out to last 4 in.

Good post OP.

HOWEVER - five of our last six games were losses and our loss to St. John's is inexcusable. St John's has played 20 games since they beat us (handily) and won just 1 of them. I know, the committee is supposed to take into account the JB absence factor ... but now for them to look favorably on us and defend it - unlikely I fear.

Given all the teams and all the information they have to process I don't think they'll be aware of, or care about, in-game scores. It's just about wins and losses. It's pretty harsh that Trevor's shot being a few inches too much to the left is the difference between getting in or being left out, but that's sports. I don't believe the narrative that the committee is out to get Syracuse or Boeheim though. If anything, I think if Syracuse is one of the last two and the margin is razor thin they'll take SU and say it was because so many of the losses were without him. But I'm not confident it'll be that close.
