Look at the list of people they are targeting - Temple, Air Force, Navy, SMU, Central Florida, East Carolina.

Why in the world don't they have the BALLS to be talking to the other potential cast-offs if the Big 12 were to break apart, like Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State - you know, do something pro-active to get quality teams into a stable, quality conference.

The remaining football schools should be looking to dissolve the league pro-actively, instead of letting Marinatto let them continue to be picked off one at a time, while they willingly consign themselves to second class status by looking at such crappy replacement schools. Is it a Catholic Basketball School inferiority complex that is behind their ineptitude with football planning?

Don't tell that to Kevin McNamara who says the Catholic schools ARE TIRED OF BEING 2ND CLASS citizens and letting the football schools needs come first. How dare the schools that provide us welfare care about themselves all the football schools should be worshiping at the altar of the basketball onlies who created this DOA conference in the 1970's to attach themselves to more relevant schools.

The more I read around, I believe that if the Big East were truly forward thinking, Marinatto would simply lead the basketball onlies into an orderly split, let them keep the name and the tournament for as long as the Garden would have them, and then let the football schools work out deals with the consolidating power conferences. This is very nearly what happened in 2003. The truth is that the basketball only schools feel that they ARE the conference. The football playing members have always been the outsiders. It was THEIR idea to put it together, Gavitt and the other Catholic schools in the northeast, with a handful of private schools they chose.

It's not about balls, it's about money. Any Big XII school would be taking a pay cut to come to the Big East.

This is why I keep saying that for as dysfunctional the BE may be, they don't have many attractive options. The BE is a prize for the have-nots, and a dreaded consolation for the haves.

this should be added as a posting bylaw. once you agree to this, you can post.

as well as to not have a post suggesting penn state to be added to the big east and to not ask if the game is on tv.

Because of the uneven nature of the LHN, and the perceived advantages it will give to Texas in recruiting and direct connections into Texas HS programs, no one may want to be in a conference with Texas - there will always be a "Notre Dame" like deal if they're in a league, or like the old favorable deal we had with Miami football, back in the early days of the football conference. There may not be a Big 12 any longer to host Texas' games. Then, the Big East is not a step down in TV dollars, everything gets renegotiated any time any 2 or more teams are added or subtracted to or from a conference. Haven't you been keeping up with that? The Big 12 could fold because of everyone hopping off the Good Ship Texas.

This is why Marinatto needs to be looking at the other Big 12 schools without the names "Texas" or "Oklahoma" in the school name, instead of the directional schools and service academies that you love so much.

As I said in response to Kaiser, the Big 12 is down to 8 schools. Kansas and K State could be next to go - to the Big East, and there would no longer *be* a Big 12 conference.

Any conference with Texas and Oklahoma will make gobs more money than whatever monstrosity the BE can cobble together.

K-State and Kansas aren't leaving the Big 12 unless the conference blows up and OU, Okie St, UT, Texas Tech are in the Pac-16, and they have no other options. Being in the B12 is better than BE hell if SU wasn't going to the ACC and Mizzou left the Big 12 I would have wanted the TGD to pursue Big 12 membership even though they wouldn't have taken us.

yes, but you may not get your fair share if you are in a conf w texas

Exactly. And from what we have heard, the BE has already be "proactive" by talking with those schools. (For as much good as that did them. Obviously, those schools are not going anywhere until they have to.

A less than "fair share" in the Big 12 > a fair share in the Big East. It will be after the next BE TV contract is signed too.

Honest question from the BCS should be..."Hey, didn't you used call yourselves Conference-USA? Bid withdrawn.

You can make an argument that any conference with just Texas in it would make more money than any monstrosity the Big East can put together. When you add Oklahoma, it's a rout. Once Texas gave the PAC 12 the Heisman (or the PAC 12 told TX and their Network to pound salt), the Big East died.

Or after those proactive talks, they assessed their choice of either bending over for Texas or joining Marrinato's Mess and immediately reached for their ankles.
