Although I don't think he needs anymore sugar.

I haven't watched the replay yet, but I thought his outburst was a big act. Yes, he just got out coached by Red, but it wasn't the refs that lost you the game. If we could have made a few more Ft's, this game wouldn't have even been in doubt.

After today's game, I almost want to root for OSU to slaughter the Fighting Irish.

He pulled the Rollie Massimino having his assistants hold him back.

I thought he was a good outside hire by ND. I've wondered why we didn't get someone like him w a better resume but not after yesterday.

Boy he looks like Michael Wilbon combined with humpty Dumpty.

Does anybody know what he went ballistic over? I watched that period of time over and over and can’t figure out what caused him to lose his mind.
Also, everybody uses the outcoached term way too often. Early in that game, I lost MY mind! ND ran screen after screen inside the foul line which produced like 10 uncontested 8-12 foot jumpers which were almost all made. Obviously a great plan and extremely well executed. Our bigs guarding the screener finally switched hard to the ball handler causing him to make a quick decision. It turned the game around. So Shrewsberry wins the 1st half coaching battle and Autry the 2nd? Coaching is important but it’s like Jim Boeheim always said…. “Players win and lose games. My success is because I had great players.”

He didn’t like the block foul on the earlier possession.

I rewatched that part over and over too, and still am not sure why he went ballistic. Was it the illegal screen call? That was a good call - player moved right in and stuck his leg out. Anyone who was at the game know more?

Brent Axe mentioned Shrews has a long history with that particular referee. Felt the illegal screen was a personal attack.
That's what I kind of thought but haven't been able to validate that. Here is an Irish account of the game and of course, doesn't mention it.

Brian O'Connell has been around a long time, and doesn't have the greatest reputation, but you know what you get. If anything, it's more non-calls, than wrong calls.

I couldn’t see anything that might have inspired ire of that intensity, except that on the last play, Red was wayyyy past the coaching ‘box’/line and we had another staffer at that line. Did he want a technical called on that? Did he previously advise the refs that he had been doing that, and then he went postal when it was ignored on a game- deciding play? I got nothing else, but ‘random conniption’ seems unlikely.

His team was up 17 and blew it.

He wanted the ND narrative to be about the refs (not that he and his team got gamed.)

It’s funny from a different perspective. They said Shrewsberry was completely out coached by the way SU defended Burton in the second half. All fan bases are the same. The coach must have been out coached if they loose.

Watched the replay over a few times. He doesn't really seem to react much to the illegal screen call, but he completely loses it *immediately* after the 3-attempt misses and it's clear they're going to lose.

I suspect it was more of a "YOU LOST ME THIS GAME" boilover than any specific thing.

I agree. He was pissed about the illegal screen call but held it together since the game was still winnable at that point. The blowup at the ref was just total frustration and anger for the 2nd half collapse and blowing such a big lead.

O'Connell is the new poster boy for refs who hang on too long.
My wife always checks the officials before the game, looking to see if the "big white head" is one of them, and if he is it's followed by "ah s@$#, it's going to be a long game". Guess someone had to take up the mantle of Higgins and Burr.
