High Point 12, Virginia 11 (OT)

UVA has been struggling the past few years and I think a lot of people were looking for a big rebound year bu the wheels seem to be completely off now. Starsia has brought in top 5-10 classes for about 10 years in a row but UVA appears to be lacking top end offensive players and depth. Injuries and the inability to land a face off guy (we know all about that unfortunately) have also devestated the UVA program. I believe I saw a state recently that UVA was 1-11 in there last 12 ACC games, that is incredible. UVA will need a small miracle to right the ship at this point with their schedule which is daunting like ours. It appears Scales and Barrett have struggled so far and the #1 recruit for 2015 has made little to no impact at this point. Expect UVA to throw the kitchen sink at Syracuse because if they lose that game there probably not finishing above .500

Game over for Starsia this will be the death knell. This the equivalent of Syracuse losing to Siena or Binghamton. Brutal loss.
Can you say Bryant

Not trying to put a Syracuse spin on it but I don't think there is much comparison to Bryant. Bryant was a team that had made the NCAA tourney twice in a row running roughshot over there conference and winning against some upper level Div 1 teams. High Point was 0-3 granted two of those were to Duke and Maryland but the other was to Boston U at home. This would be like Syracuse losing to last year's Hobart team.

Not to mention Mike Pressler, a solid head coach who has done well with that program and was doing pretty damn good at Duke until it all went down.

Good point as well. Look I think its clear that SU losing to Bryant was still a "bad" loss, its a game Syracuse should have won but I don't think its anywhere near the level of losing to High Point, for a team like UVA that's almost unfathomable.

Nice job by the refs trying to make sure the game went the "right" way.

Hopefully UVA's struggles leads to an awakening on the disadvantages of early recruiting.

agreed. Honestly the two worst at that by far are Maryland and UNC. The number of 2018 and 2019's they have already committed is absurd. Not that UVA isn't bad as well. Think Cuse is a bit behind those three, Hopkins, etc. in taking early early commits.

Not saying there terrible by any stretch but they also got pounded 17-6 by Duke and lost to Boston university. I guess there kind of like that St. Johns team a few years ago, decent but still a team that UVA should beat and honestly beat going away.
1st Game at Duke I'd look at the last 2 Games vs the 1st 2

Yeah but that BU team just lost to Hartford. It's a bad loss. Maybe High Point is better than people think, but they are 1-3.

Only 5 teams won teams won championships in the 32 years between 1978 and 2009.

Syracuse 11
JHU 8
Princeton 6
UNC 4
Virginia 3

Only one of those teams, Virginia in 2011, has one a championship in the 6 years since.

The times have changed and they are not changing back. Some of us commiserate with Virginia because we know SU is not far away from a similar result.

Well put. It was also a tournament game. Big difference between that and High Point in Feb.
