Hindsight for BJ

Let me finally clear this up for you. When Bj arrived initially it was thought that he would redshirt but he played well enough in Canada (10ppg, 5rpg) that it was said that he would play some minutes at the 2. But if you recall that season, even though the team went 25-0 the team struggled and the games were very close in occ games at the dome and everywhere else. That resulted in the plan going south. A gamble that lost a year and it made sense to do it this year when you added in all the factors. Talent was never an issue to play in the ACC. He was recruited by every team except duke, nc, va and lville prior to the early signing period at the beginning of his senior year. I hope that answers you question.
Understood. You created a thread about BJ and hindsight. Just added my opinion. I'm sure the SU coaches share the same.

You do realize that bj could be a HS senior at this point. And seeing what he was able to do at this level twice removed. I would say first team and top player from what I saw yesterday.

I brought this up in previous threads. He is basically the same age as Malachi.

Not saying he would definitely be a McDonald's AA, but I think he would be, at the least, in the final pool for the game.

I'm sorry to see BJ go as I see him putting on some weight and really being a productive player.

I know this might be "best case in the world scenario", but I always thought of BJ when I watched Joe Johnson of the Nets. He clearly doesn't have the mass that JJ has, but I think the style of play is similar.

Where would BJ be ranked as a burger boy player? That's why I slowed him down to reload by giving him the extra year. I will say this though, there is not a better 19 yr old coming to any college especially having played on this level moving forward.

I've said this before, but I'll always respect parents like you who send their kids to Kindergarten at age 4 if they're ready. I was always the youngest kid in my grade, which sucked when it comes to getting your drivers license last, but I think it builds character to compete academically and athletically against kids who are in some cases 2 years older than you.

Thank you for your insights and I wish you and BJ nothing but the best. One interesting thing about this is how much the 25-0 start ended up costing us. Almost certainly Ennis, possibly Jerami, and now BJ (I'm assuming we wouldn't have been so desperate to win those close games if we weren't undefeated, but that might be an unreasonable assumption). And then we lost in round of 32 anyway. It sure seemed like a good thing at the time...

Just out of morbid curiosity, any second thoughts (or in reality probably 42,999th thoughts) now that Chris has declared? Nahh, don't answer that. I don't think I could take it.

Hi OGBJ20 - Question for you (if you don't mind answering, of course):

If you were the parent of Chris McCullough, what would you advise for him to do regarding entering the NBA Draft this year (coming off the injury) or staying another year at Syracuse?

Thought it would be interesting to get your take on this, being the father of another highly regarded basketball player. If Chris came looking to you for advice on his current situation, what would you say? What are the main considerations, in your opinion? Any insight on how "other, non-basketball" type of factors (for example, fact that he has a kid...or maybe he's just not the type that enjoys the education process) may have helped influence the decision one way or the other?

If you don't feel comfortable providing an answer, no worries. Just trying to help sort out my feelings on the recent news & hoping maybe your perspective could provide some clarity for me. Thanks!!

It is hard for someone in the midst of their dream to change the course but as difficult as this was we believe it was the right thing to do for bj moving forward when considering the circumstances. As leader of this family, we are disappointed at the results of the situation and the ability for bj to fulfill his dreams as an orange member but fully understand the aspects of collegiate sports. The situation is for the coaching staff to figure out at this point. I'm pretty sure that they will get it done.

I rooted for BJ harder than I did for any other player, and I doubt I am alone in that sentiment. Many Syracuse fans dream about a very athletic and tall kid who can hit the 3, play the 2 or 3, rebound, and put the ball on the floor. I still believe BJ has a very good chance to be that player. Sad for us that it won't be at Syracuse.

No hard feelings at all, though. It's a perfectly understandable decision. I wish you and your son the best of luck, and I will continue to root for BJ at LaSalle.

No disrespect to you but I don't comment on other players and their situations. I wish him the best. I have enough with making decisions on Bj's behalf. This is work, man.;)

No problem at all, I totally understand & respect that.

And also, BJ is destined to become my favorite non-SU player, possibly of all-time. From watching him these past 2 years & interacting with you on this board, I'm convinced that he's going to be wildly successful in his future endeavors & I'll be rooting like hell for him too.

Best of luck. I'll be rooting for BJ where ever he lands and hope he has a great career going forward. You are a great parent to BJ. I get that the player as a person always comes first and always support our players decisions. Keep in touch with us and hopefully we don't see BJ against us in a final four or something cause we may end up being the sorry fans when he beats us!!

Totally agree. The question I have is: did you have any idea Chris was planning this move and did it or would it have influenced BJ's decision? Seems all of a sudden he'd be in line for a very major role next year.

Mike will start at the SF position and play huge minutes like all returning senior starters do for JB. BJ's most natural position is the 3. Chris plays the 4 and while it certainly makes the front court less crowded it doesn't directly mean more PT for BJ.

I mean no disrespect, but every sports Dad thinks their kid is the greatest. I'm guilty to.

Most kids graduate when they're 18 or will turn 18. Why would BJ just be a high school senior? Regardless though, BJ has been playing at Syracuse for two years. The hindsight BJ would still be playing for a high school team, no way do I think he would be the same player that he is now. You're making a lot assumptions and maybe I am to but he would not be a mc d's aa as he wouldn't be the player he is leaving SU. I've seen a zillion better kids not be Micky d's as well.

I think Bj is going to tear it up at Lasalle, it seems like a great fit for him and his game.

You don't seem to get it.

What a move by him seriously.

I'm guessing he doesn't actually understand the realities of BJ's situation. At least I'm giving him that benefit of the doubt.
