Two teams separated by 15 years that had talent but couldn't put it together during the season. Fits and starts the whole year.

A beloved outside shooter who was shortchanged by the league and its writers (overrated vs. no first, second, or third-team honors).

An 8-9 noon matchup in the first round. Catch lightning in a bottle (last-second shot vs. scorching hot). Time to battle a #1 seed in the early game the next day that we historically play pretty horribly against.

Let's hope the history keeps rhyming tomorrow.

How well I remember that magical tournament! However, Gerry had to carry the team. This team carries itself.

Fortunately for us, 2021 UVA is not 2006 UConn.

That win vs. UConn was a truly monumental upset. They blew our doors off twice in the regular season and were probably the best team in the country that year.

UVA is an extremely well coached team, per usual, and Bennett has our number. But we are only 5 point underdogs. We can absolutely win.

We were in Cancun for Spring Break. 22 of us. Watching Gerry McNamara go crazy... it’s one of the best memories I have. It was insane.

Not 10 games. Buzzer Beater after Buzzer Beater. It was the best of times.

Quincy has to take it to their bigs and make officials make calls. He played soft last time. Joe can also shoot over their little point guard. Murphy scares me along with Hauser and Ruff. Our defense will set the tempo early and we can’t just settle for threes. Virginia will try to take away our threes. Last game Buddy penetrated the lane and turned it over 3-4 times trying to pass because he couldn’t get his shot off. They all led to easy transition baskets. Shot selection is a big key to keep defensive balance.

I’ve been saying that I’m getting distinct 2006 Big East tourney vibes from this team. Not that there’s any real parallels. I just feel like the team has finally got some rhythm and hit its stride and is playing confidently, and it feels like we’re about to go on a run to at least the ACC title game.

Went to the Cincy game that year during work (I was working at 37th and Bway, so right near MSG).

I think if we win this tourney, it will be a full team effort (nothing against Buddy, believe me, I swear).
