My notes:
- San Diego appreciated Cuse fans. Don’t think locals were thrilled about ticket prices for a game not heavily attended. At Qualcomm and Petco a lot of townies would go day of at discounted prices.
- 5K looked well attended, cool race route.
- Parade was a ton of fun. Syracuse band, and dance team made it special for my kids. Alumni portion of the parade was a bit of a disaster. I know because I was in it. Only knew about because of the Board and had other Cuse families in my neighborhood participate. People organizing it for Cuse never showed up. Just poor optics which screamed minor league by Cuse. Other participants were good eggs including the gentleman from ADK in a helmet with a football getting the crowd involved. Plenty of Cuse fans in the crowd at the parade.
- Alumni tailgate. Funeral after parties are more lively. They had a surf machine (think bull but with a surfboard) which was broken from the time it opened. That’s it. $65 for tacos and cash bar. Essentially a fundraising event. Pleasant people but not a good atmosphere. Holiday tailgate when we walked in looked awesome. Heard good things through other attendees.
- WSU did not travel well. They didn’t last time I attended the Holiday Bowl either. Nice folks though. Band was huge but lacked creativity.
- No ketchup in the stadium besides one small station with ketchup packets. A few military men and I started the search that ended up being 5-10 people deep of inebriated men looking for ketchup on their hot dogs and burgers and not ranch.
- Parachuters into the stadium, military heli flyover and a massive American flag were well done.
- SDFD rescue team members nailed a 35 yard field goal for 10k.
- Fireworks were awesome. Cuse fans showed out well at the venue.
My game notes:
- Allen is/was the clear leader of the team.
- Put Stonehouse at LB. That man is big and boy was he pissed after that blocked punt. Allen was the lone person to calm him down at the end of the bench. Also Allen owned up to missing a blitzer that lit up McCord.
- #58 - Miles? large man and always sitting on a Gatorade water cooler. Get that man NIL and show the durability of the water cooler.
- Duce was banged up a lot. He’s tough but is clearly hurt and took a few bad angles that led to big gains. I give him and Clark credit for trying to lead that young unit.
- Buxton and Diggs were doing a lot of coaching on the sidelines. I expect Buxton to be an integral part of next year’s secondary.
- Kerr has a mean streak. I like him, but needs to improve his hips and/or burst as he didn’t do as well on pass plays after initial contact.
