Horse Racing 2025

crazy race. Not sure that if you ran that race in a Belmont Allow race they let you stick your horse in that hole and not get taken down. That was crazy dangerous

No chance. If anything it was Bafferts who caused the issue Prat and Baffert both said as much. The horse was inexperienced and not used to dirt in face

Journalism is the best 3 year old on the market right now, not sure why Rispoli is not riding him like that, he put him in a brutal spot and still won. All that said, nice to see the horse get the Preakness after 2nd place in derby off the short turnaround. It can be done just takes a special horse and some racing luck

Can't wait to see how he does against the fresher horses that will most likely line up against him in three weeks.

Yep but that is what makes it fun. Do the fresher horses have a clear advantage? sure but I look forward to it as well. Should be a great few days of racing, heading up Friday and Saturday

I was lucky that I knew a friend of a friend of Larry's and got to spend a race in his booth at the spa watching him up close and personal. Even though the crowd watching him in a random Wednesday afternoon race is much, much smaller than a triple crown race, he still puts the time and effort into it. Most people would say, very nice, but being a geek, you really get to appreciate an artist at work.

Flavien intentionally was causing that trouble. He should be suspended.

So will the cowardly team managing the Derby winner run the Belmont or does load management dictate that 1.5 miles is too much

Rooting for Journalism to beat the coward horse in a few weeks.

Thankfully, that dude had his 15 minutes of fame and disappeared.
agreed, such a horrible interview. Should have just said what a run, what a horse, congrats to the winners and been done with it. Come on! He also was acting like a buffoon after the Preakness win. Goes both ways

Interesting article and commentary from Steve Asmussen on Rispoli’s ride on Journalism. I tend to agree with him. You got the best horse ride him like it

Preakness Ride
IB: You are a horse owner, if I recall, would you seek to take him off?

I don't know you watch that and don't think he didnt put that horse in a dangerous position. Horses don't run in a perfectly straight line especially on the corners but he forced himself into contact because he stayed in bad position on the rail. Asmussen is right. Thats a race that gets taken down most of the time for that ride.

Kind of all depends what the instructions pre race were and usually the trainer deals with this type of stuff after they discuss with the owner. You never know what the instructions were but what always irritates me was a jock who didn’t listen or who didn’t ride hard for 3rd and 4th place. Those checks come in handy every month. Most of the big jocks really don’t care unless you are some huge owner or trainer. Never minded getting beat for the most part as long as trainer/ jock had a plan for the race and if it didn’t pan out then so be it, sometimes things just don’t work and I get that and you have to at times. Always like jocks that gave you good honest feedback about your horse after a race, the only way you learn and try to improve the horse. You may not always like what you hear but the truth helps! Not all jocks will do that but some are great at it,expectional really. Some just have just a great feel for a horse

You have to remember the trainer is with the horse 7 days a week they usually know best if you have the right one but I very rarely buy when a trainer says that they told the jock to just go out and ride the horse, 9 times out of 10 it’s BS. I think Kenny mcpeek/ Brian Hernandez that’s probably true but that’s about it with a few exceptions obviously.Like I said was Rispoli following instructions by not tipping the horse out earlier or was it just a horrendous ride. I just don’t understand why he didn’t ride the horse like he was best in race because he clearly was, only way he loses if speed horse gets loose on the lead which probably wasn’t going to happen or he gets the horse in so much trouble that he can’t overcome it, which he very nearly did.

Excited for next year. Live in a new community built at Laurel Park so will have a 5 minute walk to the Preakness while Pimlico is renovated.
