Houston/TTech game are these refs for real??

Please explain how this is a flagrant 2?

These refs should be suspended for this.

Extremely rare but nothing will happen to the refs. I thought it was crazy when Roger Ayers called a flagrant 1 on Judah for elbowing RJ Davis while driving to the hoop.

In my book, they need to change it that it can't be called on an offensive player while making a basketball play.

No way Toppin should have been thrown out.

Dude did do a really good job to make it look like he accidentally kicked him in the balls.
I watched it 25 times and he definitely kicked him in the balls on purpose.
However, I wouldn't have called it ànd told him that he got away with one.
Watch it in slow motion...his right leg appeared to be the only thing that wasn't in sloMo.

Nah. Legs move independently. Appears to be completely inadvertent.

You can’t evaluate that in slo mo.

Yeah, no.

Honestly if this happened in a pick up game, most people would realized what they did and went my bad. Did he even do anything?

The irony is that a kick to the balls would be such a Kelvin Sampson thing to do. I will always loathe Houston as long as that p**ck is coaching.

because one makes it look like an accident, and one does not.

Even though the rule doesnt really care in some cases if it was accidental or not.
Oh please...

What he does after matters not one bit to the stupidity by the referees.

The elbow to the face in the Notre Dame was far worse than yesterday’s kick in the groin. That elbow was intentional.

Draymond Green happened to do something similar about 10 times in his career. In his case it wasn't always an accident.

No I'm not claiming this kid did it on purpose. But claiming this type of stuff can't be intentional either would be naive.

But I don't think you should eject either as you can't make that judgment here.

Why not? Isn't that what the referees do when they review?
Like I said I wouldn't have called flagrant because I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt for such a serious consequence, ejection.
If you meant the leg motion...why would his leg move faster than his arm that threw the ball?

Yeah, no.
Ok "definitely" may be extreme but Id say more likely than not and I believe thats what the referees concluded.
"Definitely" was a mistake to say and anyone that says it was "clearly" unintentional is also mistaken.
I also would have given the player the benefit of the doubt and not called the flagrant.
Ive been kicked in the nuts much harder than that and didnt have 10% of the reaction.

No idea how you can come to that conclusion.

Toppin jumps straight up to pass, but has to twist to the left because he’s left handed. The Houston defender gets so close to him that he makes body contact and he is literally under where Toppin took off from. I know at least in the NBA, if a defender comes into the landing space of the player who is jumping, it’s a foul on the defender. You have to give the jumper a place to land (may only apply when shooting, but should apply to situations like this pass). It’s a dangerous situation that causes injuries. I can’t recall if college has an equivalent rule.

Anyway, this clearly causes Toppin to slightly fade backwards and his leg kicks up to counter balance the fact his body was twisting in the opposite direction. Also, watch any type of fade way jump shot and it’s a completely normal motion for the legs to kick out when fading away at all. It’s basic physics.

This call has to rank up there as one of the worst I’ve seen. The rule example of a flagrant 2 has to be called if a hit to the groin is “not clearly accidental” is terrible wording.

If that happened in a pickup game on the courts I played on you might be getting out of the hospital next week sometime. Dude knew exactly what he was doing and I’m dying on that hill.
