I thought this was a great wrinkle and Fredericks ran well in it, especially considering by the 3rd or 4th time they knew he wasn’t doing anything but running and he still picked up some first downs.

I loved the innovation and think Lester is doing a great job this year. I do kind of wish there was at least somewhat of a threat of a pass. Seems like you can only go to the well so many times on that unless you're OL is really getting some push.

I think there was a play, where Fredicks bobbled the snap, that looked like Mahoney was coming on an end around. Assuming they were gonna throw it. I'd have to go back and check but I'm pretty sure I saw a play of that nature developing before Fredericksburg bobbled the snap.

yes, I thought they were going to run something else out of it when he bobbled the snap. I wouldn't necessarily say 'trick' play but I do not think Fredericks was going to run it that time. i couldn't tell if the snap was bad or if maybe he took his eye off getting ahead of himself.

edit: just read the article. was going to be a trick play.

Would love to see Womack run it

I have been asking for a wildcat package with Womack running it similar to what Spurrier does with Cooper. Womack would also give you more options with his arm, again similar to Cooper at S.Carolina.

Personally, if we are going to use it, I would prefer the QB to initially line up behind center and then shift into it. The more time the defense has to look at it, the better prepared they will be.

Great fourth down call

Nothing, and I mean nothing, drives me more crazy than when coaches put in goal line packages on fourth and one and try to run right up the middle

Just awful. I think it's one of those "it's always been done like this"

Spread the field with 4 wideouts to draw defenders out. I'll never get it

Well Avant can run and seems to have a good arm in that one trick play they tried. Just didn't throw it to an open receiver.

Agreed I'd like to see a pass out of it to keep the defense honest.

Hes a good candidate to run it he ran a little bit of wildcat in high school there are one or two highlights in his film of it and he threw a TD pass out of it in the Long Island championship game. (2nd Highlight at the link below)

Overall passing stats for Sr Year, I assume all Wildcat since he was a RB: http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/jor...EeKZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/football-stats.htm

8 of 15 for 145 Yards (18.1 Yds/Comp) and 2 TDs

Based on the stats and the on the money tight spiral from the LI Championships I'd say he's a threat to throw.

Honestly I think the best thing about this being a package is that it is just another thing the opponent has to prepare for.
-Option
-Triple Option
-Option Pass
-Double wing HB Triple option
-Pistol Read option
-Wildcat
-Jet Sweeps
-Reverses
-Counters

That is all reads against the Run...Yikes

I think "it's always" can be followed with some sort of sentiment that grinding out that yard with a bunch of fat guys really fires up the team.
