How bad is it to be a Rutgers fan right now?

don't think gloating is a great idea, we have a looooong season ahead, not looking that great. all this messs is not over with much to come. we need to focus ourselves on ourselves and no one else. let them say what they want ---we need to leave it on the field.
this thread is great reading and all, but tiphill has this absolutely correct in his post...nothing elsse matters but what we do on the field

Couldn't agree more.

Know what? Rutgers could come in next week and absolutely smoke SU on the field.....and it wouldn't bother me (too much)

At the end of the day, we're still outta here and RU isn't.

You really feel this way?

"We" don't play on the team.

"Remember, too, that the RU athletic department has been siphoning more in subsidies from the rest of the university than any other athletic department in the nation — $115 million from 2005 to 2010"

Holy ****! I knew it was bad but to see a number like that attached to it... wow.

Rutgers football has very shallow roots and its an area that will support only winners and only winners on the biggest stage. They can easily slip back. There is no safety net of long time fans. It's a program nobody asked for. It was the brainchild of a few who asked, "Why not here?"

This may be true, but is Syracuse's fan base really that much different? Look at SU's recent football attendance, can't really make the argument that SU fans show up through thick & thin. What was the actual amount of fannies in the Dome for the Rhode Island affair? I can honestly say that it looked like (as a TV viewer from a far) it was at least half empty. It was quite sad & disappointing. How many will show up today?

Blame the economy/recession if you'd like, but data supports Syracuse's numbers faring much better than many, many other places. And, ticket prices are quite reasonable. Translation...the economy really has nothing to do with it. It's just simply interest, or lack thereof. Unfortunately, many Syracusans whom make up the community and surrounding areas are indeed of the fair weather brand. Unless the team is kicking some A, for the most part, they'd rather be at the fair, apple picking somewhere, or just doing something else besides attending a football game up on the Hill. :(

Fans are the same no matter where they are- just take a look at any other message boards & you'll see that.
When they're team is winning, its all roses & sunshine. When they're losing, then the coach sucks, the AD sucks, the fans suck, they school sucks, etc etc

Schools like Rutgers have no history to fall back on when they stumble. Asking folks to commit to bogus schedules & mediocrity is a bit much, under any circumstance. At SU we've had similiar issues recently, but we've tasted prolonged success before so at least we know what'll happen when we win.

If we represent in the ACC, the fans here will jump on the bandwagon, as fans are apt to do. The Rutgers' of the world can't say the same thing.
