How Dan Mullen did it at Miss State

He's in the SEC and has $$$$$$ and playing teams that are in the SEC and have $$$$$$.

(Does SEC = "Securities Exchange Commission"?)

I like how they call Dak Prescott a lightly recruited QB from Louisiana. Maybe at first, but by NSD he basically had his choice where he wanted to go. That sure helps.

This is pretty surprising. Mississippi St has been at or near the bottom in SEC recruiting for all of Mullin's tenure. It's not like they are bringing in bums by any means, but compared to the rest of the SEC it's pretty shocking. Show's how a great qb can lift a program.

Like SWC said this also reminds me a lot of how Marrone was building the program. I was so confident that he was going to have us back in the top 25 or better.

Sounds like a similar approach to program building, (and job getting) to Doug Marrone's. Only he stuck it out.

Of course this might have something to do with "sticking it out".

New contract after his second season in 2010, went from last to sixth.

This is what the local brain trust was saying about Marrone in 2012.

And to think you keep asking for an explanation of why he left.

Coaching and having a true system can make an immense difference in Cfb... On any given Saturday player for player can be beaten but coaching game plan and having a trustworthy system will get you places

Mullen By The Way Was GA At SU Under Pasqualoni.

Google Mullen hot seat.

Buffalo has been so gentle with his delicate sensibilities

Mississippi St has beaten 1 maybe 2 P5 teams OOC during the regular season since 2000. Granted they are in a very tough conference but that resume makes Boeheim's OOC look tough.

If Dan Mullen gets offered an NFL head coaching gig, pretty good chance he will take it, like Marrone did and like many others, including Nick Saban, have done. Some guys can resist the lure, some can't. Definitely made it easier for Marrone to go, looking at what he was being paid here, but if the NFL wants a guy who is making what Mullen makes, they can pay him. No salary cap for coaches. Marrone was underappreciated by a lot of fans, but plenty did appreciate him. He is an overly sensitive guy when it comes to things of that nature, he doesn't tune the noise out well. At the end of the day, Doug is an NFL guy, period. Can't see him going back to college at any point.

Yep. I plead guilty to having been a little testy during that skid. I was right, however, that HCDM was not on thin ice at the time.
