Among all the sports teams I root for — which includes the 4 Boston pro sports franchises, SU hoops, and my son’s high school lacrosse team — I find SU football to be the most challenging in terms of getting news and analysis.

Basically, this board is my only source at this point.

I don’t subscribe to Syracuse.com, largely because I have a million other subscriptions and it’s not like anyone here raves about their coverage.

I don’t use Twitter — basically stopped using it a few years ago because of how toxic it can be.

I have The Athletic, but they don’t have a dedicated SU football reporter.

So what do you all do to follow the team? I’d love to hear some recommendations.

I do subscribe to syracuse.com. Football beat coverage isn't great, but they sometimes have good feature articles/player profiles.

I think Mike McCalister does a really good job covering the team. I do have Twitter and follow him on there, but you can also bookmark this site. Note not all the articles are by Mike.

For me, SyracuseFan is the oracle/pulse/publication of record/gossip reservoir of all things athletically Orange.
Out on the Sea of Internet, it is in the crow's nest of where the SU Sports ship is sailing. Always my go to source. It's so non-retail and filled with mostly like-minded fans who love our little Methodist citadel on a hill.
And with all the links members so thoughtfully provide, there's little need to go elsewhere for info. Plus some of these dudes/dudettes are more connected than mere reporters or website operators.
It gives this straight dope, the straight dope.

Syracuse.com has the best SU sports coverage hands down. It’s not as good as it used to be, but it’s still better than anything else out there. Don’t listen to the ding dongs on here who complain about their coverage.

I'm with you, with the exceptions that I've found having syracuse.com on google news reader lets me bypass subscription requirements, and I don't have The Athletic.

Honestly it's mostly just the message board.

I subscribe to syracuse.com articles (generally don't read their board though), and this syracusefan.com for me.

Here, mostly. I get more insight and better knowledge from posters on this site than anyone in the media since Stephen Bailey stopped being on the beat. That short lived podcast with Julian Whigham was awesome.

My main source is syracusefan.com, which is the best fan site on the Internet.
I also like Mike McCalister. I watch a lot of YouTube and their algorithm now shows me just about anything SU or ACC related.
During the season I check a lot of cfb stats on different sites.
At the end of the day, it's mainly syracusefan.com.
You guys are the best!!

I subscribe to syracuse.com because I think supporting local journalism is important. If we don't pay something for it, it will die.

I still hate that they don't allow various subscription options because I think some people are driven away by the cost when they only read Syracuse sports content. It would be great if they could tier the subscription costs because I think they'd get more people subscribing to digital.

Syracusefan only, I used to read other sites but the quality of product has gone down across the board. I’d prefer to argue with you lot after reading orangextreme’s synopsis

Other than this board, there are no good places. I subscribe to syr.com, but might drop it. It's not really worth it. Amazing to think how much syr.com and the Post Standard used to be such a go to. Now, yawn.

We have a beat writer that probably doesn't want to be here, and a coach that wants to keep the program in lock down. When you make a comment about it, people usually say something like no one cares anyway, just win. But we did win last year, we make such a small attempt to engage people.

Oh well, on the bright side, I've learned to enjoy more of my summer. Sometimes I think my wife might be behind all of this. And well played by her.

Basically nothing to follow the team anymore but this board. They could be top 10 and I’m not even sure I’d know.

I’m thankful for the two or three people who follow Twitter and post all the tweets cause otherwise I’d literally know nothing and I used to be as rabid a fan as anyone on the board. Almost apathetic now.
