How do you follow SU football?

I follow through twitter/x and this board. The Athletic used to be another outlet but they've cut back.

Scooch, you mentioned that twitter is toxic and all that and I agree but have you ever thought about curating your follower list into specifics for sports, etc. I'm sure if you want to follow the beat writers for the Orange and some national guys you can avoid the mouth breather types like Clay Travis and Dan Bongino.

Among all the sports teams I root for — which includes the 4 Boston pro sports franchises, SU hoops, and my son’s high school lacrosse team — I find SU football to be the most challenging in terms of getting news and analysis.

Basically, this board is my only source at this point.

I don’t subscribe to Syracuse.com, largely because I have a million other subscriptions and it’s not like anyone here raves about their coverage.

I don’t use Twitter — basically stopped using it a few years ago because of how toxic it can be.

I have The Athletic, but they don’t have a dedicated SU football reporter.

So what do you all do to follow the team? I’d love to hear some recommendations.
I don't consume much news about any team any more. I still like watching the games but everything else, I mostly gave up and I don't miss it

Arnie Burdick, Herald Journal and the Post Standard to Syracusefan.com. Honestly, I just miss getting the Sunday paper with all the info in it and thankful y'all put forth such a good site for us SU fans.

Yeah, part of it is age and repetition. We sorta know the outcomes before it starts after 20 plus years here.

Subscribe to the dot com out of a sense of loyalty, and The Athletic has good stuff on our programs compared to anything else out there. Really this board and our networks of friends makes it happen.

Take the same amount excitement into game weeks and game days and such, just don't worry about bad camp takes and whatnot.

I get almost all my info from the forums. You can always trust the word on the street. Too bad you need 18 different providers and websites to watch the games lol

Like many others, this forum serves as my main source of information.

Tomcat's summarization of daily articles is also extremely useful, because it spans a variety of different sources, ranging from Syracuse.com to anywhere articles are published].

Personally speaking -- and this is only because I have extensive interest in football recruiting -- I also pay a lot of attention to On3 and 2-4-7 recruiting info, just to keep tabs on the players we land, their other offers, star ratings, etc. I pay more attention to this than I should, which is why I am so interested in roster construction and how our recruits / incoming transfers are evaluated.

Overall, reporting for our team is underserved -- especially by the PS / Syracuse.com. That changes a bit once the season starts, and there's actual news to report. But the off-season is kind of a dearth.

Which again is why I use this forum as the aggregator of information. And also to hear from experts like Money, 007, JerseyOrange [back in the day], and other coaches who really provide a lot of valuable insight.

As far as available info and media coverage goes.. I think this is sort of a prove it year for this program…DBs entire tenure is riding up to this season and it’s an extremely important season for the program in general.

The tide is starting to turn in recruiting and player engagement and buy-in and (success?) and I think all the players and the coaches are very locked in right now and focused on making that happen.

Everyone seems to have one goal and that’s to battle and better each other for the team goal of winning football games…and for personal goals of achieving playing time to help do that.

There’s a ton of open positions and I think our team isn’t so much focusing on the outside noise and chatter that goes on, which includes media coverage. Yes it would be nice as invested fans to know more about our team, but at the end of the day it’s put up or shut up and preseason is preseason, not the regular season. In a way I kind of respect it…the team seems to be grinding and they want the play to do the talking.

I think there’s a good chance a successful (8) win season and solid bowl appearance changes that for the coming years and that we hopefully expect next year to be a better experience as far as preseason hype goes.

Yeah, I don’t need to read hot take opinion pieces, or the annual “this player has something to prove and is in the best shape of his life!” stuff.

But I do like informational pieces on positional battles, etc. this time of year. And once the season starts I like to read knowledgeable breakdowns of the game.

I get all of that in abundance for the other teams I follow, but it’s much harder to find for SU football.

I appreciate everyone’s responses!

DailyOrange.com - they have a sports and a daily newsletter during school year. In off season I have a Syracuse feed on Twitter. I only read that vs the other garbage on there though the content is slowing down as the platform dies a bit.

I yearn for the days sitting in Kimmel dominating a taco bell/sbarro/snapple nutritional lunch with the Syracuse Post Standard opened up to the post game summary page. Always fantastic.

I learned about it on the street corner just like I did about the birds and the bees.

As I sipped coffee this morning, I listened to the Axe podcast (joined by Emily) this morning where the subject was what keeps Dino's job safe and who are the 5 most indispensable players.

I found it interesting, but maybe that's just because I felt a little desperate for some coverage.

I follow SU football at “a safe distance”

I do YouTube searches using the keywords "Syracuse Football Punches [random topic] in the face". I found this podcast that way once, I can't remember the name, but it's these two guys, they have great smiles. I only watch their show with pillows over my ears held in place by these really cool noise canceling headphones (not sure what that means but it sure sounds cool). Anyway, it's tough to make out what those guys are saying, but they sure do know Syracuse football. That one guy has really great hair. I also go to this site called Syracusefan.com. But I only look at it through a kaleidoscope. I don't know why, but this guy anomander and this other guy Ghost always seems like they say things like six times. I get a headache if I spend too much time on the site though. Really great info though! That place rocks!

This site. Still waiting for the Philippine media to start covering Syracuse sports. ;)

syracuse.com
Mostly out of habit, but not sure why, I can't read 9 out of 10 articles (don't subscribe), and frankly I don't like the writers there. They don't really know or really care about SU sports. Before it went pay, they were often just posting someone's tweet and calling it an article. Lazy.

www.si.com/college/syracuse
Has replaced syracuse.com for daily articles.

www.nunesmagician.com
Has replaced syracuse.com for daily articles, and covers all SU sports. Used to be more college humor than now, unfortunately.

insidetheloudhouse.com
Mostly basketball recruiting and speculation, but consistently puts up articles daily.

dailyorange.com/sports
Still great, but infrequent articles.

sujuiceonline.com
Don't really go there regularly, but can have some good content.

This board, of course.

The FB Recruiting board, also.

The lacrosse board, also.

cusenation.com
Don't look at it much.

The Juice on the Cuse podcast
But infrequent episode drops.

I've given up on all other SU sports podcasts (just not informative or worth the time) or they have been taken off the internet. I've got plenty of quality non-sports podcasts to fill my time. Will watch the Mob podcast though!

Just to follow up on this thread. Tonight channel 9 is doing their annual SU football preview. I will not watch it with the expectation that I’m going to learn anything new. I may not watch it at all because there’s nothing that can be updated quicker than can be updated on this site. I’m not saying they’re preview isn’t going to be well done, it will be. But there will be nothing substantive coming out of that that I don’t already know.

Also want to give a shout out to Mike McCallister. He’s really done a nice job recently. He’s the longest tenured beat reporter by a mile at this point (10 years).
He’s much better on air these days too.
