How Important Is This BC Game

Over time and on average, sure. But we are not a "half-way marginally decent program" again... yet. It's going to take a couple more years of better recruiting. It seems pretty clear to me that we lucked out somewhat in what Marrone was able to do, but he didn't recruit a QB able to take over when Nassib left, or WR's for that matter. That's it, it's as simple as that. So while we made strides, we're now back to the point of having to recruit to prove that we are a 7-5 team and not a 6-6 team hoping that all the slots don't fill up.

We may win, but with only one game left we know who we are this season. And it's not great. While 5-7 would be disappointing, it's not the end of the world. I think we really needed to win the Pitt game, and we couldn't will ourselves to do that.

No offense, but I agree with very little of your post.

And we are a "half-way maginally decent program," as evidenced by the number of "peer games" we won this season.

Bowl or bust.

I'll get back to you after the game. ;)

What kind of question is this?

It's huge. We win we get a bowl. ING HUGE.

If nothing else I get to see my team play another game.

Media has been all over this BC team all year - they have a slightly better record and a great RB. I don't they are as good as their inflated reputation. Go get 'em.

Someone else said it on here: making bowls doesn't prove a program is good these days, but failing to make bowls does prove that a program is bad.

Let's not be a bad program.

^^^^^^^^^^^this^^^^^^^^^^We need this to change the perception that SU football sucks that many still have.WE NEED THIS WIN!

Disagree with this, and further, I believe it is this perception that continues to keep the fan base mired in apathy. Three bowls in four years is significant for a program that had sunk as low as we did during the GRob era. A .500 record in the ACC, and chance to get to 7 wins. 15 More practices. Remaining in the bowl season discussion. And the chance to carry this over to next season...when presumably we won't open on the road against two BCS opponents, represents a solid chance to gain traction in recruiting and momentum with the locals who currently ignore SU football. We need them to be enthusiastic. And if our own "Die Hard Fans" can't be enthusiastic, how the hell will they ever be?

Well I say Yippie kai yay to that. Plus, we ain't playing no cat of any sort so we definitely have a chance to win this game.

One thing I do wonder about, would it be better for the staff recruiting wise to not be in a bowl? Or is there some kind of dead period?

Not very.
I think a bowl will have little bearing on next year's squad.

We'll have a different starting QB. Bowl's not going to make or break any recruits. The OL could use the extra practices, I'll give you that.

I think we've proven we can compete in this conference when we aren't playing a national title contender. The result of this game won't change that. We needed to avoid a disastrous opening season and we have. Still, getting to a bowl was a goal and certainly has it's advantages, as noted. But I don't this this game is anything close to "make or break" for the program.

The more I've been thinking about this the more I'm certain that we won't see consistent attendance increases until we've strung together a good 3 or 4 bowls. We have a streak of one right now. Sure would be nice to not have to start that over.

Well then, like I said, I'd get back to you.

War Damn Otto. That is all!

(insert crow emoticon here)

What are the new NATIONAL PERCEPTION RANKINGS?

Did anyone tweet about our win?

Huge win indeed. Congrats to the players and staff for battling all the way and finding a way to get it done.
