I honestly don't get how the committee can jump Oregon over Florida State and leave Mississippi State number 1. Oregon should be number 1 if the committee has no regards for win/loss record as Mississippi State's schedule has not been that tough thus far. The Bulldogs SEC East opponents were Kentucky and Vanderbilt. This team is good but they leaked oil like the media claim Florida State have,

Mississippi State's best wins are over #9 Auburn(2 losses), #17 LSU(3 losses)
Florida State's best wins are over #18 Notre Dame(2 losses0, #19(Clemson 2 losses)

Mississippi State non-conference schedule:5-6 UT-Martin (FCS), 3-7 Southern Miss (4 wins total over last three seasons), 5-5 UAB, 5-4 South Alabama (3rd year in FBS)

Florida State non-conference schedule: 7-2 Notre Dame, 5-4 Oklahoma State, 4-6 Citadel(FCS), 5-3 Florida.

I mean if Alabama beats Mississippi State and I think the Crimson Tide will house Mississippi State I want to know if the committee will drop Mississippi State out of the top 4. If Mississippi State stays in the top 4 with a loss it will show the committee loves the SEC. Mississippi State's win over Auburn is why they are #1 right and that win has lost a lot of shine due to Auburn losing to Texas A&M and Auburn is likely to lose atleast 1 more game as they travel to Georgia and Alabama.

you gotta look at the whole schedule. florida state has it easier in conference

we all know the SEC is the toughest conference. they schedule OOC accordingly. which makes it really hard to measure whether the SEC really is better because they're not playing people out of conference.

the NHL is better than the AHL - we know it but can we measure it? they don't play each other

SEC is the SEC. their #1 should always be #1.

we just need to get tcu out of the top 4.

@Louisville << @ LSU
n-Oklahoma State = Arkansas
Clemson, Notre Dame = Auburn, Texas A&M
@NC State = @ Kentucky
@ Syracuse > @ South Alabama
Wake Forest = Southern Miss
Citadel = Tennessee-Monroe
Virginia > UAB
@ LSU is the best win and I give Mississippi State credit there but Louisville isn't a bad road win either.

I mean the schedules aren't exactly that much different right now. I agree Mississippi State has got the way tougher remaining 3 games @Bama,Vandy, @Ole Miss vs. @Miami, BC, Florida. However, the subjectivity the committee used to ding to Florida State in favor of Oregon makes no sense if they aren't going to apply it to Mississippi State as well.

If the committee feels Oregon is better than Florida State fine then they should think Oregon is better than Miss State.

I despise the fact that this committee does a ranking every week. It's basically Bracketology.

I agree the SEC champ should make the top 4 every year, but the conference is overhyped. South Carolina and Georgia were both preseason top 10 and have fallen on their faces down. The entire SEC East is down this year, and the West is overrated.

Alabama is a top 4 team, Auburn and LSU have 9-3/10-2 type teams and both played legit non-conference games. Ole Miss before injuries on their defense and stud WR had legit playoff aspirations. Texas A&M is a good depth team, but nothing special. Arkansas is a good last place team and would be a top 3 SEC East team. Mississippi State is the most overrated team in the country they got hot against LSU and Auburn and have ridden that wave to #1 in the country.

The clock is about to hit midnight on Mississippi State this weekend as Alabama is going to house them I believe, and with all the injuries Ole Miss has been hit with the Bulldogs may be able to squeak to 11-1. I would say Miss State has no business in the playoffs at 11-1 unless they play and win the the SEC title game.

Really? I love it.

Transparency is a wonderful thing.
Generally, yes. I'm curious about how it's changing the behavior of teams, and if that's a good thing. I think the transparency here might be a bad trade.

Why would it be bad? I don't follow.

Plus, I'm not getting too worked up about Miss State and 'Bama because that's almost certainly going to work itself out as they play each other, Bama plays Auburn, Miss State plays Ole Miss, and one of them plays in the SEC Champ game.

Things change when they're observed.:noidea:

Plus, the Bracketology thing annoys me because the whole premise is stupid - "Here's what the committee would do as it stands right now."

Well, the committee never actually decides right now. The committee decides when the season has concluded.

I still don't follow. These teams would still be seeing their AP and Coaches ranking. But that's OK.

what, what, WHAT??

this IS the committee putting out the rankings.

if the season ended today...this WOULD BE the F4.

this is not bracketology or the AP & UPI rankings.

comprende???

This could all happen. They could be crushed by Alabama and still be the SEC champion at 12-1.
It's even possible, though unlikely, for a 6-5 Florida (losses to FSU and Eastern Kentucky - remember Georgia Southern?) to make it to the SEC championship game.
FSU can't afford to lose, else 10-2 Alabama and/or a host of other 1-loss teams will keep them out of the playoff.

If Mississippi State loses to Alabama and the Crimson Tide win the SEC West and SEC title game then Mississippi State's chances at making the playoffs rest mainly on Florida State losing.

SEC Champ is getting 1 spot.
Oregon-Arizona State winner assuming either has 1 loss will get a bid
TCU-Baylor one of them at 11-1 gets in.
Florida State at 13-0 gets in.

Ohio State at 12-1 wins a Big Ten title win over Nebraska should get in over 11-1 Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs played nobody in the OOC, their SEC East games are the 2 of the 3 worst East teams Kentucky/Vanderbilt.

Ole Miss played Boise State
Alabama played West Virginia
Auburn played @ Kansas State
LSU played Wisconsin
Arkansas played @ Texas Tech

Mississippi State played nobody thus the SEC rep is protecting while undefeated but once they lose it will go away.

A&M/Arky/Auburn/@ LSU/@ Ole Miss is not enough if the teams above are 1 loss or FSU undefeated. Miss State needs to win the SEC West to get into the playoffs I believe.

i remain convinced that at the end of the day, tcu or baylor will get jumped after championship weekend.

you just cant sit that out.

the bevo is about to get an education...

Mississippi State SOS 45, 2-0 vs. Top 10, 4-0 vs. Top 30
Florida State, SOS 51, 0-0 vs. Top 10, 2-0 vs. Top 30

Side note: Bama is 6-1 against the Top 30. They have WON more games vs. the Top 30 this year than any other team has PLAYED against the Top 30.

Yes but a big part of what they have done against the top 30 is the inflated SEC rankings for the undeserving in that conference. Get rid of preseason rankings and start ranking teams after week 4. If they do that, we don't run into the Texas A&M problem with everyone thinking they are top 5 before the season so teams beating them got more props than deserved. This goes for that whole conference. Noone is denying what Bama has done, but lets get realistic for a moment about the rest of that conference behind the top 4 teams.

A&M started the season ranked 21st.

Why does the fact that FSU plays Florida in a few weeks matter to a committee that is taking a snapshot?

And given the UM-FSU spread, the UF-FSU is probably close to pick-em, no?

Mississippi State plays in the SEC West; they are number 1 with very good reason. Not a single team in the division has an out of conference loss.

UF has serious issues on offense... serious... from QB to play calling. They'll be a lot better in a couple of years, once their QB develops.

This year's game comes down to Winston vs. Florida's defense.

I think it's a great idea. In fact, the NCAA tournament committee should do the same with basketball (Not Joe Lunardi or Jerry Palm). It would help increase the popularity of the regular season of basketball did a similar thing each week. Then we wouldn't have to debate whether we were a 5 or 2 seed, and would know where we were at.

That's because they rarely play anyone worth a damn. Miss State's OOC is abysmal.

Miss State: UT-Martin, Southern Miss, South AL, UAB (No ranked)
Arkansas: Nicholls St, Texas Tech, NIU, UAB (No ranked)
Auburn: SJSU, K-State, Louisiana Tech, Samford (1 ranked)
LSU: Wisconsin, Sam Houston St, Louisiana-Monroe, NM State (1 ranked)
Bama: WVU, FAU, Southern Miss, Western Carolina (No ranked)
TXAM: Lamar, Rice, SMU, Louisiana-Monroe (No ranked)
Ole Miss: Boise, Louisiana, Memphis, Presbyterian (No ranked)

Auburn played Kansas State and LSU played Wisconsin. Who would Syracuse not beat? Boise, NIU, TTU, and WVU. That's 4 out of 25 teams that a 3-7 team likely couldn't beat.
