howard needs more run

He really impressed me today. This is 1 helluva freshman class

Then you're easily impressed--he didn't do anything today.

And for the record, Howard is my favorite player in this class [although Lydon is impressing the shiznit out of me].

Howard needs more run purely because he can rebound from the guard spot. We will struggle for rebounds at times which is why it makes no sense to put KJ in over Howard. Plus he has shown to be a good passer and solid ball handler.

He didn't do anything today? I saw a few rebounds and some very nice dishes out to open shooters in transition. Plus he didn't turn the ball over. If you ask me that is a solid 5 minute run from our 3rd freshman.

He got two rebounds--both on the same offensive tip, I believe. Zero assists. Zero across the rest of the box score.

I love the kid's potential, but when the OP says: "he really impressed me today..." I'm not sure what he was watching.

The box score never credited Howard with an assist. What about the one he kicked out to Cooney late in the first half?

I think Cooney missed that shot [watching game for second time now].

I think he's saying he's more impressed with Howard than KJ and I agree.

I think a lot of this sentiment stems from some having a desire to see KJ replaced in the rotation. :noidea:

No, Cooney hit that shot. It got us to 50 in the first half. Howard pushed the ball to the rim and kicked to Cooney. Bilas even made a comment about Howard's pass.
Nope - he drained a 3 in the left corner.

Not that I don't trust you guys, but I'm watching the first half again now--will look for that play.

Not a desire but who has played better so far this year.

That is BS, because Howard hasn't done much--yet he's been overly hyped here every game.

And again, please keep in mind that he is my favorite member of the freshman class. Pragmatically, I'm not seeing what some of you are outside of the exhibition games. It reminds me of the football board, when George Morris ran off a big run in his first spring game, and then a big segment of the posters decided that he was the next great RB.

Howard is going to be a very, very, very good player for us. He was impressive in the preseason. In the three games thus far, he hasn't done much.

Think he's played better than KJ

KJ played well in the first half. He had a bunch of poor plays and questionable decisions, too. The latter offset the former to a great degree and taint an otherwise decent first half performance, and if he is going to emerge as a functional member of the rotation, he has to demonstrate better decision making to avoid mistakes that are unforced.

But there is non way that Howard was "better" than KJ today--he wasn't in the game long enough to distinguish himself. And that's why I think some of the superlatives are over the top, given the production thus far.

We did not need Joseph or Howard to score tonight but what about when we do. I don't know if its in them or if its going to be cooney and Gbinje playing out of a flunk.

I was dead wrong on it though. Joseph looked better trying to play point then SG tonight.
His jumper not enough lift not tight enough release not enough arc not quite enough patience. To me thats lack of practice.
Tonight we saw two different kind of pgs in Howard and Joseph. Joseph moved the ball off the dribble Howard killed it off of transition in the open court finding the open man before the defense was to the spot.

might of only got two but I know I counted atleast 3 rebounds for Howard.

Just wish there was a way to get Joseph to pressure the ball and defenders more with his hands up, sitting back is not his strongsuit. On one play in the second half Gbinije came running up from behind Kale to defend the same guy Joseph was defending and had a better hand up then Joseph. It resulted in 2 points inside a few seconds later.

The box score absolutely missed an assist. Which is the weirdest thing, because he had the nicest pass of the day to Cooney in transition for a 3 and Bilas praised him for a solid 10 seconds and they showed a replay of it. I guess we know for sure the statistician doesn't watch the broadcast of the game. Either way he was asleep at the wheel. Makes you wonder what else they miss.

I don't think Gbinije or Cooney are going to sit much this year. There won't be many minutes to give a third guard. 10-15 at most. Howard was ok today. Joseph didn't do anything today. He was 0-6. I think tomcat alluded to this in his recap, but Joseph has to have the worst plus/minus on the team. He hit a couple of shots against, Lehigh, but other than that he's looked the same as he did last year.
