Hubert Davis Seat is Less Hot Than Autry on 2/12/2025

It’s time someone asks JW about the current state of the program. He did with Dino. There are so many jobs open this year that it’s going to be a chase for the best coaches. With BC and NC in trouble, there could be five or more coaching jobs open in the ACC. I do think there’s a certain highly regarded coach who’s just waiting for the SU job to open.

Please tell me it’s Hodgson

I still don't understand the Hodgson love affair. I am not saying he is a bad coach but any stretch, but what exactly has he done to make him a sure fire P4 coach? Win 20 games last year?

I get Ark St is 9-3 in conference and in first place, but there are FIVE teams at 8-4 right on their heels. This Ark St team could easily finish middle of the conference. This is who you want to throw all your resources at?

Look at Pat Kelsey's and Nate Oats' resumes compared to Hodgson before they made the jump.

Kelsey at Winthrop and Charleston won their conference regular season multiple times, and brought both schools to the NCAA tournament twice.

Oates made 3 NCAA tournaments with Buffalo, and won a game in the tournament twice.

I need to see way more before crowning Hodgson the savior of Syracuse basketball.

I think Hodgson reminds everyone of Fran....

-Great Recruiter (Oats #1 recruiter)
-Learned under Oats for years
-Runs a modern offense
-He is intense on the sidelines
-He is from the northeast so has ties to the area
-He also recruited Freeman and White to Bama (good chance to keep them)
-He wouldn't cost a lot

On the surface, he checks a ton of boxes

He grew up in Western, NY. He has ties to the area.

Got to fall in love with somebody.

I get all that. But on the surface wasn’t Autry a lot of these things? I am a results person, not a surface person

I wouldn’t crown Hodgson the savior, a step in a different and right direction. I think we will play harder all the time, I think we can afford him right now, I think he can recruit, he grew up a Syracuse fan that is an outsider, and he’s young.

Atleast according to College Sports Wire USA Today.

Once the national media hot seat coverage starts and ramps up, there is no hiding for JW and the school.

The articles yield talking points and those talking points will start working into the national gameday coverage when we're losing, etc.

We have the first salvo and I am sure it will not go unnoticed.

And to be fair, given where we are at, you don't get comfortably beaten by Miami without at least a first salvo at this point.

I know the school sent JAB out last week to try and get out in front of this sort of talk, but these things percolate organically based on results, as they should. There's only so much a little spin can help...

I agree. He's got potential and it could be a home run, but it's far from a sure thing that he'd dominate the ACC when his teams haven't dominated the Sun Belt. If Arkansas State loses in the conference tournament I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay to try to get his value up.

A P4 program will hire Hodgson this offseason...

He's on a lot of schools' "potentials" lists and Arkansas St. didn't just up his buyout amount on a whim.

Leveled up on his wife game too. He always be closing.

Last night sucked and all that but Miami did look way better than 1-11.
I am sure playing against 5 of us would make Miami look better also. Upsets happen. The issue is when it is not even clear that a 1-11 team beating you is actually an upset anymore. If Duke lost to Miami = upset. We were not even favored.

I make this comparison too often... but this is GERG all over again. The year we upset Louisville, we then lost to some MAC team (Miami, I think) the next week.

Syracuse fans are negative, but we are always also trying to be positive. Give us anything. A win over BC and we are talking about what would happen if we win out. And then we cannot even beat the worst team left on the schedule. AND make them look good in the process.

Are you referring to Hodgson, and is this speculation or is there information out there that he wants to coach at SU?

It seems from all the insiders we are stuck with Red for at least another year, so we need to just grin and bear it.

I'm not sure who he is referring to.

But one thing I know for certain is that Hodgson already has his eyes on Syracuse.
He would kill for this job.

Hodgson would probably get Freeman and White to stay.
