Huge opportunity for this program...

Great post! We need to destroy these guys. Beat them by 30 plus is what i want to see. Dont let them even think that they have a chance step on them from the get go!

I didn't even think about it, but it would be awesome if some FL recruits were able to make it to the game (the Plant guys, Daewood Davis, etc).

I was wondering if they would be going. Don't most HS in Florida play on Fri night? If they can afford the tickets to the game, would be awesome for them to see our product in-person.

Great post. Just wondering though, do SU fans need to talk themselves into something? We have been down so long we don't see what we have in this team?

We are 2-6 all time against USF. (Winning the last 2 I think.) Historically, they are a very tough out for Syracuse. It'll be hot and muggy down there. And on slow grass. They battled FSU for 3 quarters - at FSU. I'll be very happy with a win.

2 of the last 3 (lost big in the Dome).. Won the last 2 in their place.

I'm not even sure what is going on in this thread. I skimmed it and all I got was Jim likes red apple ale and our theme song is by twisted sister! Not feeling hard nosed with this thread

I feel like this game is big from the sense the way we are playing we should win. It feels like a momentum game to me where throw a win under the belt and the team starts to get things rolling, lose and we fight through the season.

I agree completely.

This has got to be the team's theme song this year. Hell, anyone who cares about Syracuse football for that matter.

Great now I'm having Iron Eagle flash backs ... Jason Gedrick damn you ... damn you ...

I saw that loss in the Dome and was so pissed, our deep coverage blew chunks all day long. Their QB was better then. This is our first road test, better show we can handle a different environment. Turf might matter but weather? That's a joke. Can't beat the Dome for heat index when it is 80-90 degrees outside.

must win.

and there better not be 1 person in all of ORANGE-LAND that is looking ahead to uva.

1 play
1 series
1 quarter
1 game...
We do not play the game. As fans we can look ahead or behind without consequence.
USF is not that much different from playing a MAC team. If we win it was expected but if we lose we suk. In terms of improving our image we need to do more than win, we need to dominate. They will be 1:3 when we meet.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2013 comeback win but you guys are forgetting the 201o game. It was our first big road win that gave us the confidence and boost out of scrubville to a legitimate Big East contender with bowl aspirations. I will never forget that game. After Marcus Sales TD catch I said, we're back!! We went on to win at Cincy, WVA and at Rutgers. No telling where we would be if that game didnt result in a win.

When we beat WVU on the road in 2010 and absolutely manhandled that potent offense led by Geno & Co, I thought we were truly there. Then we beat Cincy on the road the next week to get to 6-2 and made it to #27 or #28 in the polls IIRC. We went 2-2 the rest of the way to squash those Top 25 hopes, but nonetheless, was a huge improvement over where we had been.

If we can take care of USF next weekend to get to 4-1, this momentum will be greater than it was in 2010 IMO.

2010 was such a weird year. After starting 6-2 and beating both WVU and Cincy on the road we had three home games left against UL, UConn, and BC with RU on the road. We lost all three homes but beat Rutgirls on the road to finish the regular season at 7-5.

Even if we beat both USF and UVa on the road we need to take care of business against Pitt and BC at home.

Cheers,
Neil

That's right, we went 1-3, not 2-2 after starting off 6-2. That was an amazingly strange year indeed.

In Big East play, we were an impressive 4-0 on the road beating USF, WVU, Cincy and Rutty.

And then we were a dismal 0-4 in Big East play at home, losing to Pitt, LVille, UConn and BC.

2010 was also the last year we started off 4-1. Hopefully, that's the only potential similarity this team has with the 2010 squad.

I don't care what happens vs Memphis this is our 1st road game of the year so it's a big test

If Dungey returns looking as good as he did and we roll to 4-1... LOOK OUT b/c IT's ON!!!!

To continue pounding on this subject, this upcoming game against USF is enormous. Everyone thought that the best case scenario through 4 games this year was 3-1. Well we're there and made a valiant effort behind a 4th string QB against LSU. The Dome was rocking on Saturday and the game was heavily watched around the country. The locals who showed up were loud as hell and the headlines all week have been positive. Most importantly, people are interested in Syracuse Football again. Riley Dixon has even entered the Heisman Race. We got some steam.

We need to win this game and win impressively to keep the momentum going. I know there are no style points in the W-L column, but we are a better team than USF. They have some playmakers, but we can handle them if we play the way we're currently playing. Some of our key players will be healthy and back in action. To fall flat in this game would simply eliminate all of the buzz that is now surrounding the team.

Tampa is now a huge recruiting territory for us. Plant HS alone has given us Rex Culpepper and Scoop Bradshaw, let alone Juwan Burgess, Bo Peek and Judge Culpepper hopefully waiting in the wings. It is a talent rich area that FSU and UF constantly pluck stellar recruits from. Playing down there will give Lester a chance to show off his new offense and Bullough to show his attacking and blitzing defensive schemes to all of the local coaches, players and families. Time to shine.

There is absolutely no sense in looking forward to UVA. 100% of the focus needs to be on USF and the coaching staff has these kids dialed in. We have a shot to land a stud TE recruit in Chris Clark who will be undoubtedly gaging every team's success and direction this year. He, along with other top recruits/coaches, like what they see right now. We need to continue that.

We've had a shitload of "must-win" and "turn the corner" games over the last several years, but I say this one has the most excitement and momentum on the line. I have people talking to me about Cuse Football that could've cared less 3 weeks ago. It is amazing what one week can do in the world of college football in terms of expectations. Fortunately for us, eyeballs are paying closer attention to what we're doing and we have an enormous shot to continue building on that.

4-1. LGO.
Wanted to bump this thread. Nicely put by Rocco and will just say I also believe that SU has a huge opportunity and a team that just might be up to the challenge. Hope is a wonderful thing. Thanks to all of you that will be in Tampa providing some home field advantage. LGO!!

We are a 5 point underdog. Thought I saw people saying we'd be the fave.
