Uniforms were really ugly on Friday night.

The look is a little different than the Gross look, but the misguided approach is the same - gimmickry - just like so many other middle of the road programs these days.

Red or blue as a dominant color works. So, the NE uniform works no matter which version you prefer.

Orange as a dominant color in any uniform scheme is ugly.

The all orange uniform is ugly. We have tried it three different ways since Coach P introduced it against Pitt in 2003. Not one version works.

The uniforms on Friday were ugly.

The O-B-O at home strikes the right balance - there is certainly enough orange to satisfy the "orange is our primary color" argument.

The same holds true for the O-W-O look for away games. There is plenty of orange in that great uniform.

I think most on this board agree that the Coach Mac uniform is as attractive as any uniform in college football.

Since it is attractive, is traditional, reflects perhaps the longest sustained period of success in the program's history and has plenty of orange, it should be used - every week.

I would have no problem if we used a throwback look once or twice a year - I think that would be a good idea.

But the approach we have taken for the last six years is the wrong one in my opinion.

And by the way, I don't agree with the premise - the contemporary NE uniform is more attractive than the old uniform.

I never really understood why the Patriots used red as the dominant color in the old days.

Wasn't the Continental Army fighting the Redcoats? ("the Redcoats are coming!").

Plus, the old NE uniform for most part symbolized years of ineptitude by the team and the organization.

The Pats old jerseys are reminders of when they were a laughingstock and their games were blacked out even in Mass. There's no "tradition" behind them. The uniforms they've worn since 2001 have a slight alteration, but that's the era of success for them. That's "tradition". Whatever that means.

Our old uniforms were clownish. Glad Illinois has them.

If you don’t like the new unis and you’re stuck pining for the old days, let me let you in on a secret. The old days ain’t coming back. Paterno isn’t going to roam the opposing sideline. Brent Musburger won’t be broadcasting our game in Technicolor either.

I liked the O-O-O on Thursday night. I hate the all blues. But you know what? I loved the Platinum (not really) when I was in the Dome with my son and we beat the Hokies.

And that’s the point. Let’s just win. Last year was finally fun. This year has been a root canal of growing pains at QB and OL mixed in with unmet fan base expectations.

Still, there’s a lot of season left. Let’s see where we go.
