I almost feel bad for Mookie

Doesn't this assume that Mookie gets his undergrad degree on time (I have no idea if he is on track to graduate or not...)

"If he graduates this year"

This year meaning this school year.

He can't, he redshirted a year. The people that used that loophole didnt redshirt and played 4 in 4. You only have 5 total years of eligibility.
This is Mookie's 3rd year of playing.

He's a Senior in college (same class as Kris Joseph). He can graduate this year.

He has one year of eligibility remaining (similar to Scoop this year, who redshirted one year).

He can transfer to a different grad school (one that has a different program than Syracuse), and get a waiver to play immediately without sitting out a year. See Ben Mauk at Cinci.

That would be within the time guidelines of 5 years to play 4.

You're right, my fault... I should know, he came in in my class. I stand corrected.

Seemed like Mookie went through a tough time last year during the first semester. I have no inside info but Mookie loves to post genuine thoughts on facebook, for better or for worse. According to...HIM, he dealt with a lot of pressure from both his family and the mother of his new child. They wanted him to transfer closer to home so he could provide support to the mother and be around his new son. He cant do that when he is in Syracuse and has commitments to the team/school and all of the traveling he has to do. From what I gathered, his interest in transferring was not primarily motivated by playing time like so many people like to think. I believe he spend most (if not all) of the summer on campus and taking classes. I dont know how close he is to finishing his degree but its clearly important to him that he do so.

People keep shouting "shoot it", fouls out tonight. Just isnt ever going to see playing time in about 2 weeks. He should have bolted last year.

Why should he have bolted? If he plays it smart he will finish with an SU degree that he will have gotten for free and he will have been a member of the Syracuse Basketball program. If he went elsewhere he would have a lesser degree, might take longer for him to get it and he'll still play in the same Rec League when he finishes up at the transfer school as when he finishes at SU. Its not like he's going to transfer to a major D1 school and be anything but a rotational player.

Very perceptive.

I can see Mookie leaving after this year and transferring to another school, using that Masters degree/immediate eligibility loophole.
I thought that only counted if you were playing a different sport and you chose a school that didn't have the degree you were seeking.

Russel Wilson went from NC State to Wisconsin, playing football at both.
