1 tournament in 8 years I think. I will pass on that. But when it comes down to it, Frank Martin over Hopkins in a heartbeat. The timing sucks. There. I did it. Mentioned Hopkins against my better instincts.
Don't want Frank Martin. I do want Boeheim to go out on his own terms, but I also get the fanbase growing increasingly upset at mediocre seasons. Hoping next year is much better so some of that can subside.
Before Martin’s arrival, South Carolina hadn’t won an NCAA tournament game since 1973 and last played in the tournament in 2004.1 tournament in 8 years I think. I will pass on that.
Not saying he's a bad coach by any stretch, just don't think he is the right fit. Also think a lot of his success at Kansas State came on the heels of Huggins being there. Before Martin’s arrival, South Carolina hadn’t won an NCAA tournament game since 1973 and last played in the tournament in 2004.
Appeared in 4 Tournaments out of 5 years with Kansas State.
I get it though. No to Hopkins also.
After inheriting a team recruited by Bob Huggins with 3 future NBA players as freshman. Martin is almost as bad as the Hurleys.Appeared in 4 Tournaments out of 5 years with Kansas State.

I'm on the side of wanting a coach whose previous employer still wanted them also.I would prefer to hire a coach that didn't just get fired. People deserve second chances. And there are a lot of examples of second chances really working out.
Ummmm…..no. Wait a year. How do you prefer your crow?if by own terms you mean he gets keeps his photos, trophies and swingline stapler .. OK

Dave, let's agree on a few things. First, Jb can't coach forever, right? Second, a person doesn't get more energy as they get older. That doesn't help with regard to recruiting. Third, do you think younger guys relate well to a 77 year old coach? A lot of kids transferred out, last year. Why do you think that is? We are going to get a new coach very soon. Should we wait until more damage is down to our program?Ummmm…..no. Wait a year. How do you prefer your crow?
Seriously. If we’re going to hire some guy who was canned recently, let’s just hire Red. Or Otto, for goodness sake.I'm on the side of wanting a coach whose previous employer still wanted them also.
Yes. We agree that he can’t coach forever. The energy is definitely an issue. Relating to a coach at 77? I am more concerned with kids conforming to discipline and structure than a popularity contest. They have to relate to basketball. He knows it, they want it. It is harder to make that point in today’s world that worships youth and innovation over experience and knowledge. Coach K seemed to manage right to the end. Yes, we will soon have a new coach. I do know that the man who has created magic for me and thousands in the frozen hinterlands out of a facility and mostly second tier recruits, has earned this fans eternal loyalty. I do believe he will adapt and create and finish it right and well. We do agree on a lot of points.Dave, let's agree on a few things. First, Jb can't coach forever, right? I would love to have Red succeed. I do like Martin, but my comment was mostly for all those jonesing over Hop getting canned and sliding right in.Seriously. If we’re going to hire some guy who was canned recently, let’s just hire Red. Or Otto, for goodness sake.
Frank Martin hell no
Shareholder, huh!? George Steinbrenner? Is that you channeling? On his own terms? What does that mean?
We could be 3-27, but he'll still enjoy picking up his four million dollar check and his feltpoint kitten Etsy business hasn't taken off yet, so what else is he going to do? He will want to coach until he physically cannot. Because what in Syracuse is more funner than that? But, is that what is best for the program?
He's not a Supreme Court Justice. He's not an entrepreneur who created the program. He's not an actor with performances that can fixed with more takes and an editing suite. He's an employee. Someone who should be serving the program, toward its greatest potential. We aren't getting his best effort, the program image is in persistent decline, and the results are commensurate. This is a business, and we are the shareholders.
It's time. Celebrate what he did, give him a watch and a shirt in a frame and let's move on.
Hate to break it to you but JB will not, under any circumstances, adapt and change from who he is as a person and coach. He’s gotten more arrogant and egotistical in his later years. He wants to be able to criticize everything and everyone, but does not want ANY criticism pointed at him. He’s developed some major personality flaws in his later years and they are hurting the program.Yes. We agree that he can’t coach forever. The energy is definitely an issue. I don't think coach K and JB are great comparison. I think K has been more adaptable (no real evidence for this, just my own feeling) and his demeanor is completely different with the media. Does that mean he related to his players better? I don't know, but not throwing them under the bus in public probably helps. And winning tends to make everyone happier.Yes. It just doesn’t work anymore. He had his glory year coaching his sons. That was his parting gift. Time to move on and restart the program.
Boeheim and I are the same age and I've supported Boeheim with the 2-3 zone for decades. For the sake of the program, it's time for Boeheim to move on. He accomplished almost everything a coach can accomplish but his personality eccentricities are beginning to outweigh everything else.
I'd like to see his replacement come from the program. I think "keeping it in the family" can be a recruiting edge.
