IMO this is an absolute MUST win game for SU.

1. Georgetown is in 2nd place - a win over us would give them the tie-break. Before anyone scoffs at this think about this one - SU has 7 of it's 10 BE wins against the current bottom half of this league and we have 5 of our last 7 against the top half.
2. This win would give us over our next two closest in the standings and a substantial cushion should we drop a couple down the stretch.
3. This would give us another high profile win against a highly ranked opponent - something all of the talking heads have been bitching about all year long with our team.
4. This would give JB sole possession of third all time in DI.
5. I do'nt know about you guys - but I want to go out of the BE (if this is in fact our last year) with a bang and win the BE outright.
6. the Hoyas!!!!

I hope the guys realize all that rides on this game and plays accordingly.

Clocks from time zones from all over the world are telling me the Hoya's Suck right now.

Yep, I think this is the most important week of the season. If we beat G'Town and UConn we will almost definitely win the Big East, barring a collapse (at that point we could lose to Louisville twice if it came to that and still win the Big East outright).

Georgetown is the best team left on our schedule, and probably the best or second best team we play all year, so it will look good on our resume.

When we play UConn, Noel will be in the house and I'd like to recreate the environment that got us Anthony - 30k people in attendance, a big win, the crowd going nuts all game.

Unless something changes with UConn, we will beat them. But Georgetown is better suited to score against us than they have been in years past. They are a good shooting team this year, and will most likely drain a few. I see them scoring a decent amount and limiting their turnovers. That means Syracuse is going to have to score in the half court, and shoot better than they have of late. Should be a really fun game.

This might be the last time we ever play Georgetown, so yea it's huge.

not a chance that this could possibly be the last time SU plays Georgetown - that angle is a non-starter

Georgetown likes filling their building every now and again. Its all about money and they will surely love to have SU come visit every other year.

No way this is our last year. The football team is gearing up for the big east and we are trying to close out our schedule for the year. We will be here one more season unless something crazy happens in the next few weeks.

I have wondered about us pressing Gtown. They are young and turn it over more than most seasons. I know JB isn't going to press fro the whole game or anything but I could see us springing it very effectively for stretches against them.

Our history says this is going to be a close one, not a blowout. Not a bad way of getting some confidence for the tough last few games.

I think L'ville is the toughest test ahead, though, as they have had our number in recent years. I think I am going to be more motivated for that game than the G'town game.

It will also be interesting to see how much Gtown zones us. We have run some good offense against zone but not shot the open looks well recently. Fab will make a big difference offensovely against zone IMO. He can be a manace on the glass but is also a good highpost passer and can hit jumpers. CJ's mid range jumper is also a great weapon.

IMO this is an absolute MUST win game for SU.

Beating Georgetown would certainly be nice, but the next "absolute must win game" will come in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

highly doubt it. Even if we left for the ACC next year, Georgetown is the key rival in one of our most important recruiting areas. I see us playing the Hoyas, Villanova 0r another Phillly team and St. John's frequently in order to maintain our presence in these markets.

Agreed and it will help St Johns, Nova and Gtown especially since they don't have football and 5-6 years from know who knows what state the BE will be in. For us it is all about recruiting and maintaning a pressance in DC/Balt Philly and NYC as you said.

This is what I would like to see:
St. Johns annually in MSG as a quasi home game for both teams thats counts as a nuetral.
Nova and Gtown in alternating home and aways where we get one home and one away eaxh season.
Add that to a pre season tourney and our usual schedulin.

It really is put up or shut up time for the program. Regular season numbers are nice, but postseason success is what matters and what is remembered.

IMO This stretch of games is for the #1 seed in the East and possible #1 overall. This is huge and its Gtown.

Im riding the Cuse high and Im not ready for it to end until a certain Monday in April. After all the adversity weve had to wade through dont we deserve, as fans, for the team to win out?

LGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 100% sure that this thread just did overstate the importance of Wed's game. No one single games means anything to SU right now. One win or one loss does not change our trajectory.

If we lose GTown would only be 1 game back in the loss column from us and have the tiebreaker. Obviously we still control our own destiny but there's a huge difference between 1 game up without the tiebreaker and 3 games up with the tiebreaker.

I'd expect the team to be sky high to play on Wednesday. Not only is it Georgetown, but more importantly this will be for JB to pass Dean Smith in career wins. There should also be a big crowd, Georgetown is right behind us in the standings, etc. -- but I think that the JB / wins factor will have our team plenty motivated.

The Hoyas may like money, but they dislike SU fans coming to the Verizon even more intensely. If you remember last year, the GT Athletic Department revealed its true character (hoya suxa) by instituting the now-infamous, "grey-out" policy. Under this policy, GT sent only its minimum contractual allotment of tickets to SU (140 +/-), and then intentionally withheld all remaining tickets (normally available to the general public, i.e., SU fans) so that they could be pre-purchased by GT loyalists. The GT AD has never denied that this policy was deliberately intended to exclude SU fans. Indeed, hoya fans were only too happy to play along; they gobbled up all the public tickets, and there were even reports of GT alums giving tickets away to "the homeless" (always thinking of charity). On game night, Hoya conspirators interrogated the few Orange fans they could find in the building to determine, "how they got in".
This, ladies and gentlemen, is how desperate Georgetown has become.
Long after we've left the conference and moved over to the ACC, the grey-out will stand as one of the most embarassing examples of poor sportsmanship in the history of the league.

Agreed. Our forwards will need to play very well especially in the rebounding dept, imo. Henry Sims has been playing well and has been stepping out making shots. He will likely try to draw Fab out which could expose us for backdoors and offensive rebounds. That freshman Porter rebounds pretty well.

them. I want them to become irrelevant, as they were before the Big East. They can go back to McDonough Gym, playing American and GW. No reason to fill their coffers. I'd rather play Villanova among the left-behinds (for the Philly kids on our future rosters). We are playing Maryland now, which is plenty of access to the DC-Balt area.

Plus owner of the building Ted Leonis is a Hoya. He likes cash but hates that we own his building. They will get better at blocking us. We DO NOT need them.

We don't play them at the Verizon this year, but IF there is a next time, I hope the SUAD is paying attention to the ticket terms. Close attention. So our fans don't get DONE again.
Originally, this started out as a problem in the league contract. Why would SU ever agree to a clause setting the minimum ticket allotment at 140 -- especially with road arenas like the Verizon that seat almost 20,000 for BB? This was asking for trouble. And why is there no policy barring the witholding of public sale tickets for the express purpose of excluding opposing team's fans? League members have traditionally offered (as SU does) public sale tickets to alumni/STH's first ... before putting them on sale to the public. This is certainly a reasonable benefit to offer alums/fans. But holding back/giving away remaining tickets just to have an "all gray" cheering section ... wow, pretty creepy.
Obviously, no one ever imagined that GT would stoop this low...
Now we know.
