Everyone (including some here) thought it was going to be a slaughter. It wasn't.

The freshmen (especially AJ) played great ... giving me great encouragement for the future.

The ESPN announcers were very complimentary.

If it were not for our red-zone difficulties, it would have been very close. Obviously, that must be the next item on Lester's agenda.

I'm glad to see no meltdown. They did a good job.

Very happy. Just hope the injuries aren't serious. Looked like the worst ones were Miller, Lewis and Wilson.

Very good. Very good. MUCH better than what I anticipated. I did appreciate the announcers too and was also pleasantly surprised there. Looks like we can win with AJ or Wilson and Lester calling plays. Kudos to all offensive coaches for getting a sudden change of direction on track in one week's time.

Now we look to the injury report for next week

Matt Millen is calling and he wants his payoff!

Miller would be the biggest loss. Starting center essh. Hopefully we get guys back next week. Foy

True. I was at the game and had metaphorically girded my loins. This was a team that could have come out and been discombulated, discouraged, downhearted, and depressed. But they did well. I liked the offensive play calling. We had at least 3 fabulous pass/catches that lifted everyone's spirits. Alas, we couldn't capitalize. Still, I walked back from the Dome with a bit of a skip in my step.

Major props to AJ who never once looked flustered

His only mistake was that 1st INT. If it weren't for that and the dropped INTs we're in this game until the gun goes off.

GREAT job today. Most encouraged I've Been by a loss is a long time

Very encouraged by the QB play of Long today. That was my biggest take away we as a fan base have a QB to be excited about. His accuracy was awesome for his first start. Hit people in stride and on the money. Our dreaded bubble screen game worked great today because the WR/RB didn't have to adjust to throws. They were on time and on target over and over again. He seems to have a great grasp of the offense. Didn't seem like we "dumbed" it down for him. Seemed like we were running the same plays we have been running but Long was able to hit the WR's. Lester was smart with his play calling seemed to lean more on the run than pass with the freshman QB which was great. I expect as the year moves on Long will be the full time starter and we will experience Freshman growing pains on this decision making but he is the kind of QB we have been waiting for here IMO. I can see the potential which is exciting.

And the Long/Ish combo could go down in the record books for Syracuse when all is said and done.

We have our QB and if we can get Estime and Broyld back we can win ourselves some games and save the season. Obviously we have to beat Wake next week. Hopefully the injuries today are not serious and we start getting guys back. Chemistry between AJ and Ish looks very good. A lot of poise shown by them and all our guys. Red zone issues still there but with Lester calling the plays and AJ running the show that will change

One quibble.

Everyone has to include some here!

Even though Lester had little time to prepare, offense seemed to have more balance, flow and tempo. I think if he decides to go with just 1 QB and can get Broyld back it can be even better, Still would like to stop seeing them get cute at the goal line(Thompson & Robinson). I was very happy.

There was a lot for me to be encouraged about today for sure. Long held up fantastic under the pressure of his first game especially against the biggest opponent on our schedule. Ishmael and Phillips both looked really good to me. The box score only has Phillips with 3 touches - does that seem off to anyone else? Seems like I heard his name more than that but maybe not.

Hats off to HCSS. He made a decision this week and too me it's going to pay off in the long run with Lester calling plays here on out. Much as I love Hunt, he's not the QB of the future and it really looks like AJ is going to take advantage of this and hopefully will succeed. Love the kids energy and demeanor. Hopefully we keep bringing in some really good recruits and get things going in right direction.

There you go again, voice of reason. As expected. Well put.

Trivia tidbit - Was talking to a friends' son who is a golf pro. Nick O'Leary , FSU's tight end, is the grandson of Jack Nicholas. He had a picture of Jack with his grandson when he was working in Florida.

Jack was at the game today. Bill Orange posted a picture of him in the chat room.
