i am worried

You're 100% right and I've heard it from a bunch of other posters on the site.

What I don't understand (and this isn't directed towards you at all) is they don't give the same respect to the underclassmen at Kentucky and berate those guys. I'm not a Kentucky fan by any means and I could care less if they win or not but do respect the epic recurring they do, but why do we get a pass for not being where we're supposed to be while being young, but Kentucky gets laughed at and can't use the same excuse.

Why the does discussion on any topic about the team we ostensibly all root for on this forum necessitate a comparison to Kentucky--from both UK critics and supporters alike?

Enough with UK--this is syracusefan.com

after Monday we will have Minnesota, Cal/Ark , Gonzaga/Baylor and Indiana all in a row so we will learn a lot more after that stretch

Other than Gonzaga, they're all suspect.

I wish we could have a separate discussion board for non-SU related college basketball posts. Then, all the "Duke is down 6-2" posts, and "Chemistry problems in Waco" posts would go hopefully be pushed into another forum. But, we still use the BASKETBALL forum to post about things WAY unrelated to college basketball (Field hockey, men's cross country, recovering drug addicts), that it apparently is what it is. Unfortunate.

Hey Poppy--did you see my IM from earlier this week? The game DVDs are of INCREDIBLE quality! I owe you big time!

I am concerned about free throws and Grant doesn't seem to be coming along like I expected. I know the season is young. We are not today the good team I hope they will become.

i usually have my dosage of xanax upped around this time of year

I know your intent is to be funny, but it kind of proves the point I tried to make in the thread about mark79's son. Emotional issues (panic, anxiety, depression) are major major issues in society, and we treat them as jokes. People who actual suffer from them lose their jobs and careers, and they never intentionally stuck needles in their arms or blow up their nose. Sorry to be a pisser about it, but that post by mark really struck me.

Some people turn to laughter to help them cope with things.

i guess its all a matter of perspective.

i had very high hopes for this year 2 weeks ago. i thought we were underrated at 8.

now... i think we are a top 15ish team. so i guess its not really reason to worry, just not what i thought we would be.

Part of the issue, IMO, is that JB has never had this kind of depth and balance before. He has 11 legit players now, and he is used to and probably more comfortable with having 7 or 8. IMO, when the conference season and crunch time roll around, he will get down to 8. JB likes to get into a rhythm with the guys he can really trust, and 11 is too many.

I'm not trying to close the door on anyone showing he can really play, but if I had to guess whose time will get reduced when the big games hit, it will be DC, Buss, and BJ. Roberson will get a little more slack for now based on reputation, but Grant will probably end up consuming his minutes for the most part. This is pure unsubstantiated conjecture on my part and subject to complete change on a game by game basis.

The FT's absolutely have to improve. No question. I think Jeremi is suffering from the development of Tyler Ennis which is causing him to take too many damn jumpers. Tyler has to consistently make some shots (yes, he hit the 3's yesterday but I said consistently) to open up the lane. Once he can penetrate and dish, you'll see an improvement all around.

Question for everyone: I didn't watch the Canada games, the exhibitions or the Fordham game, I've only seen Cornell and Colgate. So far this season (I completely understand that he's only 3 games into his college career), I've been disappointed with Ennis' ability to attack the rim. He looks tentative and weak. Do others see it that way or am I off the mark?

Wow...How can you say that after 3 games where JB played everybody for extended minutes? Ennis is improving...Gbinije is improving...Cooney is playing well...CJ is CJ...They are doing okay.

Question, how'd you feel last year after we got our asses stomped by Georgetown????? How'd you feel 2 weeks later?

He needs to hit some shots! Defenses are playing off him now...That said, he isn't MCW...He's more like Z...Which I'll take.

Michigan State beat Kentucky in a neutral gym. MSU nearly lost to Columbia in their own gym. You people need to calm the down. The only reason any of these 3 games have been close is because people are going unconscious at 27 feet. You should be more concerned about wives and girlfriends leaving you because you lack nuggets.

WE got this scro's

When I see Ennis play I see a lot of Z as well. I think he is the best comp for Ennis that's been a part of this program.

One of the ways we calm ourselves down is by writing about our concerns on the board, and then we have discussions.

On previous posts I expressed my concern of a developing trend of giving up way too many 3's at the top of the zone, particularly by the starters (not suggesting a line-up change). I am also not suggesting a defensive system change, but to put things in perspective as I see it, teams like Duke and Louisville that play an attacking/pressing style defense tend to blow-out inferior teams like Cornell and Colgate because they force more turnovers and prevent a lot of 3 point shot opportunities. On the contrary, Syracuse sits back in the zone and allow these teams to move the ball around until they get a good look for a 3 point shot. They tend to take a lot more 3's and make about a third of them whereas teams with attacking style defense disrupt their flow and allow fewer opportunities. Perhaps against these inferior teams Coach JB can experiment with some M-2-M and some pre-emptive attack style defense.

Our fans are a bunch of nervous nellies. I will be nervous if we go like 8-5 in the non conference.
