I could never be an official…

I wanted the ref to not assume it was a spike and actually see the play but your point is taken, it is a difficult sport to officiate.
the issue was everyone knew ND was probably going to spike the ball.. the ref is supposed to get into a position to see the play. one thing that MLB umps, who take a lot of complaints too , but they work hard to be in the proper spot for almost every play. the one who blew ours dead was in the wrong spot to see the play.. the head ref was the one who should make the call. the same for the sideline IF call. there was not 1 ref in that play there are 4. One on the play rules on the contact and catch, the line judge comes down and helps rule on the in bounds part , the back judge and one in the middle help with the call as well.

Notre Dame is famous for "magically" having calls go their way . Maybe you might recall the Stanford and Pittsburg games in 2012 . I wish they weren't brought into the ACC as they will attempt to use the conference selfishly like they did the Big East , which led to its demise.

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand ND. I also don't like how they can continue to play independently without a conference. However, I give them credit (as hard as it is to do). They command the attention, viewers and dollars which allows them to do this. If they didn't, they would have been forced into a conference long ago. Are they using the ACC selfishly? Sure, but so is the ACC (using ND) or they wouldn't have agreed to the arrangement.

To say that their arrangement with the BE led to its demise is a bit over dramatic. BE leadership (if you can even call it that) is what led to its demise. A complete lack of vision and forward thinking mixed with always one step behind is largely what led to its demise. The BE got so far behind in the game that once they finally got the memo to be proactive, the conference had so little weight and respect to attract the teams it desperately needed.

If they had come in for football , the Big East would still exist and possibly the ACC would have gone kaput . I can't believe they are the only team not in a conference , yet still in the playoff system. How arrogant can you get.

if the TD wasn't allowed because of the whistle blowing the play dead then how was it considered to be our fumble recovery? The whistle blew the play dead before we had possession. (I was in a bar so i didn't have the benefit of sound, discussion, announcers etc.) but I assumed the TD was not allowed because the lineman kicked the ball which would also make the play dead no?

the play was unprecedented and bizarre to say the least but the fumble was recovered after the whistle and after the kick. It seems to me that if we were given possession of the fumble then it should have also been ruled a TD.

That fumble with the negated TD return was absurd! I was sitting directly to the side of that and watched the 2 officials with a desperate look of bewilderment on their faces speed walk towards each other all confused and blow the play dead as our player was approaching the end zone. I could not believe how disheveled they looked. It was scary to know that those jokers were in charge of the game.

I'm with you. I can't stand 'em. I also agree that had they joined the BE things would be much different. However, the current leadership of the conference (as well as everyone else in the world) knew that was never going to happen. Instead, they allowed other conferences (starting with the ACC) to raid. By the time the BE "tried" to be proactive, it was too late. It's hard to use the word proactive and the BE in the same sentence.
