I thought the Heisman trophy was awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. Giving A.J. McCarron the Heisman is like the NFL MVP being awarded to Russell Wilson. While McCarron/Russell have good numbers neither of them would be worthy of the Heisman/MVP because of superior candidates. While I believe this alleged incident last December with Jameis Winston is why this is even debatable at this moment I can't believe the media is trying to drum up support for McCarron as if the Heisman is a lifetime achievement award. If I was ranking my top 5 QBs this season I wouldn't put McCarron in my top 5 and I am not even including about stat stuffers in Frenso State or Northern Illinois.

My top 5 College Football QBs this season
1. Jameis Winston
2. Marcus Mariotta
3. Aaron Murray
4. Johnny Manziel
5. Teddy Bridgewater
6. Bryce Petty
7. Braxton Miller
8. Zack Mettenberger
9. A.J. McCarron

Now, has McCarron been one of the most successful modern college QBs of all-time? Hell yes, winning 2 NC titles and likely playing for 3rd is unbelivable, but don't tell me this kid is the reason why Alabama has won it has more to do with the fact Alabama has the most talented OL(4 1st rd NFL draft picks in the last 3 years), stacked RBs, and an awesome defense. Giving the Heisman to A.J. McCarron makes no sense when somebody like Miami's Ken Dorsey didn't win one and his Miami Hurricanes dominated college football from 2000-2002 like Alabama has recently.

EDIT: LOL I forget to add Bryce Petty as well.

Generally speaking, the Heisman trophy award is a joke. No defensive player has ever won the thing, other than Charles Woodson...and he returned punts & played some snaps at WR. You mean to tell me, in ALL the years the Heisman Trophy has been around, the best player in college football has NEVER been on the defensive side of the ball. That's just simply not possible. Other than Tim Brown robbing the Heisman (ND Bias at it's finest), they give the award to the best QB/RB on a top 5 team. It's one of the most bogus awards in sports, IMO. I really have no interest in it, because the large majority of the time, the best player does not win.

Actually Paul Hornung was the worst Heisman winner, on a terrible losing 2-8 Notre dame team. His stats 94-420-4.5 rushing, passing 59-111-917, that's what you call Notre Dame bias. The only winner from a losing team, and 2-8 should never have been considered.

Aaron Murray deserves something.

No disagreement with Hornung at all. Tim Brown was the 1st one that came to mind. Thank you for furthering my point though.

Mr. All Purpose yards? What a load of bullspit that was. A WR that was on a running team that never passed and was freakon 8-3. But hey, he had that kickoff for a TD vs a 8-3 USC on National TV. OK, I'm still angry about that.

Well, he did score three TDs after all. Poor Donnie Mac only had 23.

The Heisman trophy died in my world in 1987 and I have not watched one ceremony since nor will I ever again.

Andre Williams should be getting stronger consideration than he is. He has no passing game to keep defenses honest (he's averaging more rushing yards than his team is passing yards), and everyone knows he's getting the ball, yet he still keeps racking up the yards. From a team success standpoint, BC has very much overachieved this year and he has to be given credit for that. Also, unlike a quarterback, when he gets the ball he doesn't have any options, he can't dump it off to a guy behind the line of scrimmage or scramble and throw it away if things don't look good. He has one option, run. And he's doing it way better than anyone else this year. When you compare the QB's, a few of them have similar numbers which is why there is still debate. When you compare Williams to the next RB he's averaging nearly 35 yards more per game. When you consider that the new wave of offenses have inflated the numbers QB's are putting up, I'm way more impressed with what he's done this year than anyone else.

It's college football version of the gold glove awards in baseball.

I said in my original post I wasn't considering Jordan Lynch or Derek Carr just because the defense they have faced aren't good enough IMO. However, they have been dominant. I just think this mass media push for A.J. McCarron is a joke.

I mean the logic of these writers is a joke. Petty or Manziel have 1 bad game and they are automatically out and if McCarron is mediocre against Auburn, but wins he is the leader? If Winston wasn't involved in an investigation this race is over but the media really ticks me off with these pieces.

Also, Paul Hornung's Heisman Trophy is the worst. It was so bad Dick Schapp one of the greatest sportswriters went crazy. From Schapp's bio: In 1956, Dick voted for the great Syracuse running back Jim Brown for the Heisman Trophy. Brown was self-evidently the greatest college player in the country, but a jury of white journalists from another generation obviously thought that it was a bit precipitous to honor him. He came in fifth. Yes, fifth. To Dick's credit, when he found out that Brown had been jobbed, he boycotted the Heisman voting for more than two decades

Notre Dame has jobbed Syracuse out of 2 Heisman's one for racism and one for Notre Dame BS popularity.

The Hornung Heisman was pathetic, if you look at the 4 people who finished ahead of Jim, 1 was an offensive lineman from Oklahoma. None of the other 3 had outstanding seasons.

For what?

For playing at such a high level with a team that's been haunted by injuries throughout the season. Aaron Murray, in my opinion, is easily a top 3 quarterback...it's just unfortunate that he has to play Clemson, South Carolina, LSU, Auburn, Mizzou etc.

Maybe he doesn't deserve heisman this year but I respect the guy.

Still has fantastic numbers though his team hasn't been near 100% all season.

If I wasn't in Kindegarten at the time, I'm certain I'd be just as mad about it!
