The basketball schools are the ones that blew it up the day they voted down Penn State, and finished it off when they voted down the $1 billion TV contract offer.

The new Big East is a glorified version of the Atlantic 10. I hope they all descend into mid-majordom.

Screw 'em.

And it's 1:58pm and Georgetown still sucks.

I agree that the basketball schools screwed the pooch (maybe it was destined to fail because of the mix of basketball only and basketball/football schools), but the original big east (even after adding Miami) with the double round robin schedule was awesome. I'll always miss that era. I wish I was just a little older so I could've had more solidified memories of the late 80's.

Pitt and ND led the charge against that TV deal, but blame the other schools for letting ND have that much say when they weren't all-in.

It was just too hard to survive the way it was.

In the end it worked out for most of the schools except for UConn and Cincy.

And despite the fact that its not the Big East, the basketball schools have done a nice job of putting themselves back into a good situation. Marquette, Creighton, Xavier, Butler have all been solid additions and allow for the depth of a multi-bid league.

The Big East will get as many NCAA bids as the ACC despite having five less teams. Then again, the ACC kinda blows so maybe that's not a fair comparison.

The ACC will get 6, maybe 7, and 5 of those teams have a legit chance at a national title. The Big East has maybe one, and I don't think Villanova finishes top 5 in the ACC.

I don't know enough about the current BE to guess how many will make the big tourney, but I don't think they have any teams that would be favored to get to the FF.

As to the ACC, I think there are only 2 with a real shot to make the final weekend. LVille, ND and UNC should all feel happy if they make it to the Sweet 16.

Fixed

It's a conference that can do a double round robin, made up of schools that are like minded and (relatively) close together. And all are basketball schools. It's the ideal conference if you're a hoops fan.

Not sure why you felt the need to insert "basketball" since none of the schools play FBS football. I think it was implied.

I've watched a lot of UNC (my wife is from Chapel Hill and is a UNC fan), and they're the biggest enigma I've seen this year. They can't beat anyone in the country, and they can also look like total garbage. If they made the Final Four I wouldn't be shocked. If they lost in the first round I wouldn't be either.

You have an interesting definition of "legit chance". UNC and their ten losses, and Notre Dame who never does anything in March, are legit title contenders? Louisville, without Chris Jones, is a legit title contender? Surely you jest.

"(relatively close together)"?? It is 1431 miles from Omaha to Providence (about the same as Boston to Miami). You've got Creighton all by itself. Xavier, Butler, Marquette and Depaul are regionally close to each other (6 hours from Cincinnati to Marquette). And then Cincinnati is 500 miles to the next closest school in DC.

Was UConn a legit contender last year?

Yes. RELATIVELY. Like relative to the old big east that went from providence to Chicago down to Tampa.

I miss the big east like I miss being 21, ya it was great at the time, but at some point you have to move on with your life.

What does moving on with your life have to do with the Big East tourney?

So, because you're older, there shouldn't be a Big East tourney?

I guess you're right. I'm older now. I've moved on. I now watch SU play in its conference tourney from home because it's too friggin far from my home.
