#1 guy, probably a 1 and 1a type deal but Marcus just seems to get open and make plays, business as usual, he has had a couple of drops but what a start he has had. When playing Sales has always bNassib's go to guy. WHEN PLAYING!! Thing is when you throw the ball a lot, run a large number of plays, a drop or two won't kill you and will happen. Well done Sales and here I read for years that you just weren't that good or could not beat press coverage and that is why your not playing! More folklore

I've been here for years and I'm not sure I've seen much said that those were the reasons he wouldn't or didn't play. Most of what I remember seeing was his work ethic in practice and his off field issues being the reasons.

I remember plenty of posts about how Sales getting kicked off wouldn't really hurt us b/c we had "fill in the blank" and "fill in the blank." There were also a ton of "Sales had one good game and everyone thinks he's Jerry Rice posts.

Just to be clear -- it remains strange to me that he was at practice every day but not playing in DM's first year here. Regardless, his last 7 games as part of the regular WR rotation, Sales has 46 catches for 725 yards and 7 TDs.

Marcus has done a great job so far this season. He has been outstanding.

Just as a FYI, USC double covered Lemon early in the game and used their top CB on him all game long, freeing Marcus to work against a less talented and experienced DB. Stony Brook also schemed to take Lemon out of the game. Also, I don't think Lemon has been 100% yet this season. I know he barely practiced the week before the USC game. I believe he is just now getting into game condition and form.

It will be interesting to see which receiver gets the focus of attention in the Minnesota game and the rest of the games this season. A lot of teams have one good CB but not another (we might be one of them). In those games, the WR that gets the weak CB is probably going to get the most touches. At this point, teams well might start making Sales their top priority in shutting down the SU passing attack.

Good post Tom, Alec has not been 100% healthy and you can see on the field that he still is tryign to get back into game shape. With another week to recover before Minny and then two weeks with the bye look for Alec to have a big game against Pitt.

Sales, Lemon, West, best trio in the BE. No burners, but good route runners and good hands.

Pugh comes back, teams keep playing a ton of zone, Nassib will have more time to work the best match up, and it will open up the run game.

Have we had a wide receiver with better numbers through three games than Sales? 25 grabs, 350 yards, 4 td's. I'll say it again--I watched sales destroy my high school in football (and bball). I think he will continue to be our top wideout.

nice to have 1 and 1A for sure, dumb move by USC really, doubling a guy coming off an injury

Agree 100%. I know what Lemon can do, I knew what Sales was capable of doing. West was the biggest unknown to me and is the guy that to me has really stepped up. Yet pre-season camp, we heard Flemming was as good as any of them. I have no complaints with our receiving corps and IMO, like yours, is that they are the best in the BE.

Getting Flemming back sometime soon would be huge, 4 legit WR's including a deep guy in Flemming would give this team an unbelievable 4 WR formation. I also hope we try to incorporate Stevens more with some intermediate to deep throws. He was tearing it up preseason but has been pretty much invisible since his return.

if flemming and kobena come back healthy do we run out any 4 rcvr sets or even some empty back field stuff. When you start to trust both tackles . Rutgers is the only BE D i have seen much of that really wants to press up on the rcvrs because they attack with the blitz so much . right now we attack with the TE as the 4th option, it would be nice to try it with kobena/clark on the 4th DB.. really want to see Flemming though if he was playing as well as they said.

we have a chance to have 10 kids catch a TD pass this year, might even get to 11-12 if the RBs can all get one.

How many are we at right now? Sales, Kobena, Clark, West, PTG?

I'm looking forward to adding Flemming to the trio as well. He's the biggest (eligible) reciever on the team and obviously had some buzz in camp. If the buzz is real that foursome could be formidable.

And with this no huddle fast tempo, run guys on go routes 1st and 2nd down and rotate on 3rd, the secondary is going to be gassed. Keep that up for a game running 5 or 6 WR's in and out.

Yes 5 so far. You have to think Lemon/Stephens/Wales get one. I think Broyld/Flemming have a great shot, that leaves Cutler/Smith.. that also leaves the wildcat throw to Nassib as the long shot.

You guys are forgetting about Kobena, he's looked damn good so far and is certainly our best deep threat.

Yeah, I remain pretty impressed with Kobena, who I think arrived pretty raw and remains a little rough around the edges. Still a really nice player.

Sales and West outside ... Lemon in the slot.

Flemming comes in handy in the red zone when we need another tall body.

I didnt forget him, hes going to be out a while post surgery and I dont expect him back for at least another month if that.

Yep, more options is better than less options. And I don't think any of those 3 care about who is getting more thrown their way as long as the team is winning.

I wish we were full strength for this important game Saturday, but at least with the week off, it sounds like we are all systems go for the Pitt game, should include Pugh, and could include both Flemming and Kobena.

As to IB's post, Sales is the biggest playmaker, and I'm glad he's back and was back in game shape (that was my only worry). Lemon is a guy who knows how to play the position will move the chains. West is developing into a combo of the 2. Kobena, Flemming, Clark only have to be backups, and they are well suited to that, 2 of the 3 already getting a great amount of game experience.

Keep getting Broyld more involved, and you just have to feel really good about this offense. The biggest issues have been slow starts and the red zone thing against SB. Not worried about SB, we were trying some things, may not have been the best time to some, but oh well. We won. The slow starts should improve, but you have to be encouraged by the big finishes. Means the staff can identify what the opposition is doing and has the personnel to adjust accordingly. Better than the alternative.

then people will complain that strategy doesn't work immediately in the first quarter. if your offense is built around wearing down a defense, you have to give them a little time to do it. people think that us scoring more as the game goes on is some weird thing when it's not

it works best when you get some first downs, if they only way it works is we need 2 1/2 quarters then some holes we will never climb out of . there are only so many variations the D is going to throw at us.. Hopefully one day the gameplan can adjust before 30 min are gone and start the wearing down process.

That's how Oregon has been so successful. They rotate RB's into the game and the opposing d-line's are gassed.

Did you play against him or watch him??

Never played football in school (one of my biggest regrets). I watched him play. He was good. Many of my friends are friends with him from CBA (I went to FM).

On a bball related note, I'll never forget watching him steal the ball, run down the court, and throw down hard on our 6'2" starting point guard on our home court. It was nasty.
