I Feel Like Everyone is Holding their Breath

This team will get better as the season moves forward…give it time
If so, let's hope they get good enough to win games before it's too late.

Most everyone in the sport is in the same boat: integrating a bunch of new players due to the constant portal-induced shuffle. We're not going to be playing a lot of teams that have a core 5 with multiple years together under their belt. Certainly not P4 teams.

If we get our doors blown off in Vegas, and struggle with the soft underbelly of our schedule in December, it may not matter that we're "better" in February. Not if the goal is to make the tourney.

The sport now demands a reasonable amount of cohesion and success from the first tip.

I just care more about the potential possibility than the outcome. But I get what you’re saying. Should they have won by 40, yes. But I think people are just anxious about the season lol
Red hasn't earned the right to have his teams not show up in the exhibition games. Also I call BS that it's impossible to get D1 players to play intense for games that don't matter. There were a number of high profile exhibitions where the teams were playing with a different level of intensity than our guys.

Also as I keep saying, the most concerning aspect isn't the effort... it's the same lack of strategy on offense or defense we saw the last two years. Again Red hasn't earned the right to throw away prep time because he is afraid of giving some secret away to opponents. He needs to find something that works and will scale against teams with the same level or better athleticism that his guys have and I didn't see it.

Call it overreacting if you want but I expect to see some hint of the strategy for this program and it's just not there.

So every single thing is on the coach ? NG was not ready to play in the first half. That’s his fault. Not Reds. I played high level division 1 golf and was an AA and you know how many times I blamed my coach if I played poorly - zero. This whole complex everyone has with blaming the coach for everything is nuts

This board is a bundle of contradictions.

We should've had a 3rd string frosh QB up to speed and somehow become a lot more athletic in 6 weeks, but guys 8-10 on the hoops team shouldn't see game experience in a sport where fouls can add up quickly.

JB in the early season games ran guys out there all the time to see what they had before he Boeheim-ed them :)
I appreciate your comment, and on the surface you're correct... But on a team with 11 new players and with the only two returning players having played only 14 games together, giving minutes to guys 11-13 on the roster that absolutely won't be playing in any close game is an opportunity missed.

Instead of giving a rotation player extra minutes to help get acclimated with minutes otherwise intended for White and Fennell, Red put Zephir and Womack out there for those minutes.

Feels foolish to me.

I want Nate George to play to par, seems like that would organize us greatly.

Interesting thought as well I just had when you said 2 guys only back.

JJ has caught a lot of heat lately as well. A lot of it is warranted however just think of this guys 4 years. He has been in a different role every year.

Freshman: Mike Brey’s finale which was a suckfest and he was thrown to the wolves and played banged up

Soph: AA’s rookie year. Playing between Judah and Bell and Justin Taylor.

JR: Broke wrist. Then played between Carlos and Bell and freeman went down right when he got back. Had to do everything.

Sr: TBD. But his role will be different than it’s ever been before yet again.

Seems contradictory, but it isn't a direct comparison. We need to win games by a ton of points because the NCAA selection criteria considers that. If we're on the bubble, it won't matter that guys didn't get game experience. It will matter how much we beat Binghamton and others by. Sucks, but that's the reality, if I understand the NET correctly.

Regardless of the net or other tools they use. The only real barometer is thewins and losses. If our final record is 27- 5 going into the ACC tournament, we are in the NCAA Tournament and with a good seed.

Player with proven track record and is one of the most coveted point guards in the portal comes to Syracuse and does very little against inferior talent. Coincidentally the offense is a chaotic, confusing iso-mess for the third year running. The coach has no role in this gotcha.

I hope you are right because I would like to be able to enjoy meaningful college basketball past thanksgiving.

Well said.

Still, if our average margin of victory is 5 points instead of 12, we'd be a 6 seed instead of a 3 because the NET prioritizes margin of victory over quality of wins and many prioritizes margin of victory over quality of wins. The metrics that base everything on efficiency will screw us in that circumstance. Whether it's being in or out, or for seeding purposes, blowing out bad teams matters far more than just winning or losing.

The problem with JJ is this... Besides being pretty bad on defense, he is not a point guard and he is definitely not a good enough shooter to be a 2G. Also not big enough as a 3. So he's out there getting a lot of minutes when he doesn't really fit any specific role. I think we are better off with Anthony or Kingz at the 2. Not sure yet about Fennell

I guess you don’t want Smith. He’s an attacker of the rim, much more than a shooter. He can defend!

I'm talking about starling. Just starling. I have seen enough of him for 3 years to know starling lol. In no way shape or form should this position be extrapolated to Smith
