Everything about that insipid fan base pisses me off.

Case in point: they are playing East Carolina right now in the Military Bowl, losing 10-7 in the 3rd quarter. East Carolina is at their own 32, and decides to take the risk of going for it on 4th and 1 despite being in their own territory.

Not only does the running back get the first down, but he has a big run, spins out of a scrum without really being touched, and sprints for a 68 yard touchdown. Pandemonimum in the arena.

But WAIT -- the refs huddle, and then wave the touchdown off, because one of them blew the play dead after the first down. The running back was barely touched -- it wasn't like one of those situations where there's a giant pile of moving bodies and momentum stops, so the refs blow it dead. There was no reason whatsoever for the play to be blown dead. But the refs screw ECU and benefit Pitt by waving off the touchdown inexplicably.

The crowd is going crazy, the players are rattled, and the next play is an offensive holding call. Boo birds are even louder now.

On the next play, Pitt blitzes and forces a fumble that the defense returns for a touchdown. So instead of being up 17-7, ECU is now losing 10-14.

I hate Pitt -- life is a wheel.

It is hard to combine hate with poetry, but you sir, have successfully done just that.

One of the worst calls I’ve ever seen, it wasn’t even a scrum where they could’ve thought forward progress was stopped, the kid broke tackles and they just blew the whistle… Thankful ECU answered with a quick TD and just recovered a fumble. Ef Pitt.

EDIT:

On the ensuring possession, an ECU wide receiver slipped a missed tackle and went for a long TD, to quickly regain the lead.

And then on Pitt's next possesion, they fumbled -- ball back to ECU.

So the football gods are making up for the refs screwing ECU.

I know, crazy.

Again, we've all seen runs where the RB goes into a pile, where 10 guys from both teams are in a scrum and the refs blow the play dead since the RB is stood up and forward momentum has stopped.

Not what this was at all. It was a whistle blowing a play dead while the play was still very much alive, with the RB barely being touched and spinning out of an arm tackle to break free.

Bizarre whistle. Even more bizarre that the refs unthinkably called back the TD.

Yes, I get Auburn also. And too hate PSU. But I'd put PSU 1B to ND's 1A.

Pedo State is also a valid 1st spot.

And for fans of a certain age -
Auburn War Chickens.
Oh yes growing up in the sea of blue and "why do you think god made the sky blue, he loves Penn St" boy did those old farts get pissed when I told them it was Rayleigh's scattering that makes it look blue and if god loved Penn St why don't they win more national championships.

BALL DON'T LIE

My dad cemented my hatred of ND, and that game was a reason why he can't stand ND.

They're in my top 2, but I hate Penn State more.
When I was in school at SU in the 1960's Penn St. was our big hated rival. But I will ALWAYS hate ND. I made a scrapbook of the articles in the old Herald-Journal about that game, including reprints they did of columns in the NY Times (pro-ND) and NY Herald-Tribune (pro-Syr). When I find that old scrapbook I'm going to take photos of some of those articles and post them on here. It's not just that they shouldn't have gotten the extra play at the end (the refs did that) but afterward they said they'd abide by whatever the NCAA Rules Committee said and when they agreed they shouldn't have gotten the play ND then said "screw you" and walked away from their promise. Their word means nothing. Penn St's history is disgusting but they didn't do that to us. I posted the ND quotes in another thread a month or so ago. I'll go find them and put them here for you. I won't give up trying to convince you. I have a new anti-ND mission now. Ha.
