you can hate the excuse but its true. It's how you get these games where Boise beats and Oklahoma in the Fiesta. Or Utah beats Alabama in the Sugar bowl game. The big name school just doesn't want to be in that game. The kids go because they are forced. But its a game they don't want to play.

And if Oklahoma did care they would at least be putting up a fight and this game would be competitive. The Sooners just clearly dont' want to be there today playing this game

How does OU not playing well in any bowl game benefit them or the players, especially the Sr's who are playing their last game, or other players who are auditioning for the NFL. How does not being prepared and ready to win the game benefit the coaching staff and recruiting?

And lastly, how do you know this is true? I just see Stoops getting out-coached. I won't disagree that sometimes 'higher' name schools may take their "lower" bowl opponent without the urgency or seriousness they may deserve, but I think its short-sighted to think that OU just didn't care if they won or lost. I don't get how anyone could think that - losing just doesn't benefit a player, coaching staff of the University, there is not benefit to not being prepared, especially as a power-house (even if by name only) team in the P5.

You are free to your opinion, but I disagree completely with this. Winning a bowl game does nothing but help your program and the players who hope to move onto the next level.

Agreed. It's not like OU was playing UCF. They were playing Clemson. I'm sure those 4 highly rated defenders on Clemson helped their draft stock today.

Clemson is knocking OU around .. makes me wonder what the staff could do with OU's talent ... hell SU was in that Clemson game in death valley for most of the game.
We didn't play the star QB.

Stoops best years look they're behind him. All kinds of other options for fast kids who want to play in big 12

Dude you're dead wrong. Oklahoma got humiliated period. They got completely dominated by a far superior team. That's it end of story.

Clemson is a far superior program to Oklahoma they've been much better recently.

It definitely happens, anyone who has played sports knows motivation is a real issue. But if your team isn't motivated, that's a coaching deficiency which IMO is just as big a deal as a talent deficiency. It's not like Clemson doesn't have higher aspirations than Tangerine Bowls... like OU, we won a BCS game last year and had a bit of a disappointing season, but you never hear anyone saying our team "didn't want to be there." That's coaching--our players buy into the culture our coaches have built, and it makes us better than a team like Oklahoma.

I'll add that I didn't expect us to win this game without Watson. I never anticipated Stoudt playing so well, but even then, this game wouldn't have ever been 40-0 if Oklahoma hadn't quit after getting hit in the mouth early. Don't think Oklahoma would've won if they'd tried harder but it wouldn't have been so ugly.

Agreed and doing exactly what they did to Alabama last year.

And I thought last year's game was the re-entrance of the Sooners onto the national championship scene. What a difference a year makes. I tuned in in the 3rd quarter when the score a=was 34-6 and the announcers were explaining to Oklahoma fans why they should still want Bob Stoops as their coach.

If it's true, then the NFL scouts should cross every single one of these Oklahoma players off their draft board. If you have pride and you're a true competitor, you don't mail it in. Show up and dominate with a national audience against a name brand, ranked P-5 opponent. What a bunch of baloney... if they truly didn't want to be there and were just going through the motions, then shame on them and their players, coaches, and fans should be embarrassed.

It's not baloney..it does happen. These bowls are tricky and there are times where the "big" school who had eyes on a big prize then falls short and mails it in during a bowl game. Clemson-WVU comes to the top of my head. Alabama did it in a bowl game a few years back vs a small school, forgot who they played.

I didn't watch last nights game so I don't know if that was the case, but it does happen and happens more than ya think. You aren't dealing with paid professionals here, these are kids and if a kid doesn't want to be out there they will just go through the motions.

I'm not saying it can't happen. I just think that it's baloney that it does happen.

I watched the game last night and I'm glad Clemson won. Oklahoma is lucky that Clemson took their foot off the gas for most of the second half or it could have been much worse.

It looked like Oklahoma came out flat and once Clemson started smacking them around they ran away with their tails between their legs. That, in my mind is pathetic and as competitive athletes (I assume) they should be embarrassed and ashamed. I don't care how much you "didn't want to be there". They were challenged and they backed down.

Maybe OU can pony up refunds for all of the Oklahoma fans that spent their hard earned money and time to travel to Florida to watch their team roll over.

From what I saw, Stoudt played really well -- must have healed that non-throwing shoulder a bit -- and Clemson just game planned better. On defense they were just prepared for what Oklahoma was doing on offense, especially through the air. Clemson's defensive backs were just all over Oklahoma's receivers.

Didn't look like a lack of effort from OK to me, just looked like a good old fashioned whooping.

Oklahoma's defensive players were running in slow motion. That's on Stoops for them being so disinterested and unprepared. There's no excuse for letting a Cole Stoudt led offense do that to you.

Good blowout name win for the ACC though. I'll take it.

oklahoma's offense is down too. this two head monster approach isn't cutting it. they get shut down a lot.

leach mangino long sumlin wilson

i wonder if stoops got sick of big time OCs coming and going. he doesn't have to worry about that with heipel and the other guy

Oklahoma just doesn't want to be in this game. They didn't show up. Took the free trip to Florida. Enjoyed the free food. And is just going through the motions.

This, Oklahoma has national title thoughts going into the year, wasn't surprised they didn't take the Russel athletic bowl seriously.
