8 TD, 5 INT is not the ratio I would've expected from him

He had a 185 rating last year, he has a 153 this year.

Against FBS teams, 6 TD, 5 Int, 145 rating. Nassib's was 141 as a senior.

I know I know. We have to look for something here to cling to. Maybe that's why the line is so weird. That is a serious drop off.

Winston is only 33rd in the country an adjusted yards per attempt (a stat that tries to convert TDs and INTs into yards so they can be included in yards per attempt)

It's a shame we're such a mess because had someone predicted this last year, I would've told them they were crazy

so much of what he did last year was a dominate D and a good running game.. neither is playing as well this year. he also lost a couple pretty good WR that are in the NFL. how many of his throws were in tight windows under pressure? they played ahead almost every game. Even in the title game the couple big throws were short but Green turned them into big plays.

benjamin is better than people thought he was last year

Lost Benjamin, Wilder, Freeman, Shaw and Jones, who was their top guy in the Spring game. He doesn't seem to be spreading the ball around as much this year.

Winston looked very human against Auburn last year.

When given little time to set, he loses a lot of his accuracy - as do most QBs I guess.

He is going to regress a lot more when that panel that Goodell put in charge of NFL player violence blocks him from playing in the league.

We're the perfect opponent for him to get back on track.

None of this matters if we can stop the screen pass from going for 10-20 yards per attempt. Our defense looked good against Golston and ND if you take away screen passes.

Winston may be having the sophomore slump. Sometimes when you have a great freshman/rookie year you buckle under the weight of expectations and ego.

This is exactly why college defenses need to bring the house nearly every play. Most college QBs are not pros and fold under press - or lose a lot of their accuracy. I think this weekend we should attack just like we did with Golson.

That was the counter to our pressure. They wanted us to slide over and cover it taking away some of our blitzes. I'd expect FSU to do something similar.

I think there needs to be a mix of both. They will be expecting us to blitz a lot and will gameplan for it (like ND and all of the WR screens). If we come out the first series or two and show blitz but drop back, it might mess with Winston's head. Then, bam, hit him with blitzes. The key, however, is that the guys in coverage have to actually cover and make tackles. The few times we didn't blitz UL, we had no pressure from the front 4 and we left big gaps in the coverage 15-20 yards downfield.

that's why some of these basic spread them out, count guys in the box and run/pass accordingly work so well - you're not forcing qbs to make decisions with guys in their face. hard to disguise a blitz enough to fool decent qbs into counting wrong and picking the wrong run/pass option

not like i have any better ideas, it's why everyone but us scores so much

Exactly. A lot of these good offenses get a great athlete at QB, ask them to look at one read, and then if all else fails, just around and make a play. Oh and don't forget to grab a few 6'3-6'5 WR's who can go up and get the ball

SU might want to ask Hopkins to recruit the next QB
