There a couple today with Kansas vs Kentucky and Auburn vs Oklahoma.

When was the last we one? I remember some in the '90's against Arizona and Kentucky.

Today is SEC-Big 12 Challenge Day

If Memphis in January 2010 doesn't count, probably Michigan State in 2004. Though that was also in early January. But we played them in late February the previous year.

I remember late season games against UCLA for Jason Hart too.
I feel like we used to have at least one big name ooc opponent during conference play each year before we went with the cupcake strategy and stopped playing other blue bloods.

Said this to my dad this morning when he was as talking about what was on today. I envy their challenge I wish the ACC/b10 was around this time as well.

I know it’ll never happen but I wish SU/G’town was later in the season. Ideally the first weekend in March, but at least in February.

The P5 + Big East extended schedules just make it very difficult these days. Schedules made to fit in 2 conference games a week for pretty much every team.

Unless a league co-ordinates with other leagues to leave open spots (like the Big 12 - SEC this weekend) its just very difficult to achieve.

I agree, those OCC games are fun especially against good teams. I remember that Kentucky game, ugh. I was 22 years old and watched the game from my parent's basement. It was the first time that I had ever turned a Cuse game off before it concluded. Now, I do it regularly.

The Arizona game was much more fun, because the outcome was great. So many games over the years but I remember both to this day, which speaks to your point.

The Big East used to be only 14-16 conf games. Plenty of room for OOC games in Jan/Feb.

The football program's descent into the toilet was what did it. I think we were playing 16 in-conference from the time Miami joined into the mid-'00s, but once the football revenue went from 48,000 per game with concessions to 75% or less of that, the AD looked to the basketball program to not give away Dome games for home-and-homes out of conference.

Can’t think of a single thing joining the ACC has done to positively effect the Cuse fan bball experience

Around 2005-2006 Gross used basketball to plug football revenues.

Boeheim was fine with it because we got more pay home games and didn’t need to do home/homes as he was helping the AD.

Think the Northern iowa, Cleveland State, Rhode Island home games.

BE went to 18 games after 2008 season.

I could see it being moved to the last weekend of the regular season for Boeheim's last game.

That Arizona game was awesome… I believe we ended some insanely long home win streak for Arizona. Maybe ooc only?

I think it did initially, when "we" knew how to construct a team somewhat. The buzz of playing Dook and other ACC teams was a LOT of fun. Then, we fell into mediocrity, and then we fell into whatever mud we're in now. I miss the BE for both fb and bb. However, times change and we have to adjust (which is why we need a new coach).
