Right here is the main reason I think the punishment needed to be so drastic. It is absolute evidence of the out-of-whack priorities at Penn State (I wish the PedSt stuff would stop...sorry). In cases where there's a recruiting violation, like at USC, I always had mixed feelings about the punishment because the people that were ultimately responsible were gone from the program and those that should be punished were in the NFL. However, the quotes coming from trustees (ultimately the leaders of the university) are showing exactly why a penalty this drastic was completely necessary. I disagree with the vocally defensive student body, but let's be honest...students are generally idiots and can't see beyond the tips of their own noses. The trustees, on the other hand, are proving with these statements why this had to be done. The culture needs a shocking change and these vocal trustees are doing nothing to help move the university forward.
