Rob Dauster. I do not typically get bent out of shape over guys calling it like they see it as long as it has some weight, but this guy hammers Syracuse and hates Boeheim more than anyone I know of. I only read his site because I have the NBC sports talk app, and it is never anything positive about Syracuse. Here is his Sweet 16 breakdown... which is completely asinine.

http://collegebasketballtalk.com/

" One of them is No. 10 Syracuse, who was arguably the worst at-large team ever to be included in the field. And please, don’t be the guy that says the Orange justified their inclusion with these two wins. By all means, enjoy this run, but it doesn’t “prove” the committee right anymore than getting drunk in a bar “proves” you’re 21 if you got in with a fake ID."

I have the same app. The NFL and MLB feeds are good, but the college hoops one royally blows, and it's because this Dauster fellow is a lazy bum. Never provides anything insightful or different, so no one comments on his articles. He hammered us over the self-imposed ban and continues to take shots like the one you've provided. There's so much good stuff going on in college hoops. No need to be bitter or nasty.

We don't need the last two games to justify our inclusion, a$$hat. Our resume was good enough to get us in compared to the other teams on the bubble and it wasn't that close.

IF getting into the Sweet Sixteen is sooo easy, then how come 52 (48 + 4) other teams didn't do so?

PS - I refuse to click any links to hacks like this, Parrish, Forde, etc.
They can all...
Suck my click.

Wait, what? That doesn't even make any sense. These guys have such large ego's they aren't willing to admit they're wrong no matter how wrong they're proven.

Those Vassar grads are so jealous. :p

Not our fault Michigan State, Utah, and Seton Hall choked.

I compare Bracketology to NFL draft "experts" in the media who predict what teams should do. In the NFL draft, despite everybody repeating the truism about "...best talent available," the Kipers and McShay's get sucked into making draft selections that invariably match up to the various team's percevied weak spots. And then, when those teams inevitably don't make those picks and draft other positions, they critique the "quality" of the draft b/c the team didn't fill holes, in their opinion, even if the players they selected otherwise are great prospects.

Bracketology isn't that different. These talking heads imperfectly understand the evaluative criteria and often misapply it, and then have strong opinions about when the committee's viewpoint differs from theirs. Often in a condescending manner [i.e., Lundardi's "What the Committee Got Wrong" article after last Sunday's selection show.

Rob, you may not like watching the 'Cuse. But believe me, it's even more unpleasant watching you try to compare Syracuse's at-large selection to someone's illegal entry into a bar.

The argument you're really trying to make is that even a blind squirrel (unqualified team) can find a nut (get lucky and win one NCAA game). However, once a team wins twice and is headed to the Sweet 16, it's clear you're the only one who's blind.

Exactly. Ain't even clicking the link. Don't feed the trolls.

To say a team with five Top 50 wins in the regular season and has curb-stomped its first two opponents on its way to the Sweet 16 "arguably the worst at-large team ever to be included in the field" is intentionally being a douche bag.
Exactly. He is trying to be one here.

Syracuse is truly the most hated program in college sports. It is an amazing fact and would make some sort of good case study of how this could happen. They are considered just good enough to be worthy of special contempt but not good enough to deserve any credit. Every one of their accomplishments is diminished with pathological fervor by a wide range of people. The one thing that seems to bring different people together is hating Syracuse and everything about it. So so strange to me.

Because there's this perception that we "got off easy" wrt our violations. We self-imposed a ban in a year where we were trending toward being left out. Then the next year we have a mediocre regular season and get in rather comfortably and end up in the Sweet 16.

Plus, our coach is just an unlikable person. He doesn't come off well in the media at all.

But it's all perception. I'm not saying it's right.

This must be the reason I have absolutely no clue who this guy is.

Agree with all that, plus add the Bernie Fine thing, which has remained totally unsubstantiated in any way, but has really been a black mark.

THAT SAID: Much of this hatred is not new. Remember how much Lunardi basked in us being on the bubble in 06 (pre-BET), 07, 08? Gotlieb was trolling us long before recent sanctions. Everybody's favorite thing of all time was Vermont beating us, so much so that ESPN gave their useless coach a job spouting junk for a couple years based just on it.

It is just so incredibly strange to me. It's not like we are the Yankees or even Duke where us being "knocked down a peg" makes people feel good because we have been so dominant or benefited from perceived advantages, etc.

Who in the heck is Rob Dauster?
He has an interesting history, playing on the Vassar basketball team, getting a few minutes & 2.5 points a game in 36 games between 2004-2006. His google+ account lists his occupation as bartender. He lists his website where he did the writing that attracted Sports Illustrated as ballinisahabit.net, a wordpress blog. Check it out. I'm not sure he graduated from Vassar as he only lists himself as having attended.

Only thing I might hate more is brent musberger when he gets on his human interest bs during a sporting event. I couldn't care less whats going on in Joe Shmoes life, we all have things to deal with, what on earth makes anyone special enough to carry on forever during a sporting event? Sorry if I hijacked.

Paranoia meets hyperbole.

If you are good, people will hate you
