should drop out and ask all his fans not to watch or buy any products that the masters sells. that tiger has every shot televised therefore has 30 million judges/ he should not play next year and sponsor an alternative show. if he wins he should step on the green jacket

@BrentAxeMedia: Winter rules for Tiger, huh? "Don't count that, Danny, I was interfered with!"

Typical of the socialist/leftist mind: Even though the rules are written and documented, and everyone agrees to play by them going in, if you don't like the outcome, complain about fairness, blah, blah, blah.

It wasn't against the Masters rules. It was against the Rules of Golf. But I certainly prefer a 2 stroke penalty to a DQ.

By the way I think Michigan should get a 2 point penalty for each of the three lousy charging calls.

when right wingers make their convention look like america, the may have a chance to win another national election capain turtle

The people saying Tiger should DQ himself are crazy. He was told about the review, and the officials TOLD HIM WHAT HE DID WAS LEGAL before he signed his scorecard. How on earth is that on him? Why should he be punished for the rules officials screwing up and/or changing their minds?

And as has been discussed on TV and everywhere else, with the recent rule changes just getting a 2 stroke penalty is the right call. Nick Faldo and his "integrity" and "this will ruin Tiger's legacy" can eat every last dick. I don't even particularly like Tiger, but the debate over whether or not he should keep playing is utter BS.

I thought conservatives didn't like regulations. ;)

Once again showing golf to be the silliest game ever created. The rulebook is worse than the IRS code. For example, why do players keep their own score and can be disqualified if they hand in an incorrect scorecard?! And enough about this being a gentleman's game - the sport is no better (or worse necessarily) than any other and just comes across as pretentious and elitest IMHO. Rant over :)

You know less about golf than you do basketball so save it. He got what he deserved which was a penalty. The mistake he made was saying he went back two yards. He should have never given a number. I have spoken to nys golf executives and they all agree the penalty fit the crime. I am not a tiger fan either.

He knows the rules better than anyone. He told his caddy not to move, so he clearly knew there was a possibility he would need to RECREATE the shot. Not play a kind of similar shot from a nearby area. Yet he tried to stretch the definition of "as near as possible." It's disingenuous at its very best, sort of like the person who takes out the oversized putter to measure their 1 or 2 club lengths when taking a drop.

His "confession" steers it away from an outright cheating episode, but its quite possible he intended to give himself an advantage, and that's not good.

As for the rule itself, they need to rewrite it, and allow for placing the ball within 6 inches or a foot of the previous shot, no closer to the hole.

Sounds like someone is a 30+ handicap.

I wish I was a 30+ handicap :) I just hack and have fun and don't worry about the silliness.

Even big golf fans have to question the goofy complicated rules etc. I read today a comment by Christine Brennan in USA Today that golf is a game played by the strictest set of rules and loved and admired for it. She is talking about a certain set of fans who feel this way but as you can tell from my comments, I'm not one of them.

I'm a golf addict and I agree that some of the rules are out of whack. Thats why I love the new 33-7 that was instituted today

The rule has good intentions, but I don't think it was thought through very well. By my understanding, it was meant to protect players from the people calling in from home to report potential violations. But, as they said on the telecast, if the initial call didn't arrive until last evening, he would have been DQ'd. Because it was caught while still on the course, he gets 2 shots. So Tiger in some respects lucked out because of the people (fans) who the rule was meant to protect against.

On a semi-related note, this also could have been a huge disaster if Tiger was in the lead at, say -7. I would suspect that many of the players who would have missed the cut b/c of the 10 stroke rule would have left town last night. Getting in touch with them to return to the course would have been nearly impossible.

The timing of the infraction has nothing to do with the ruling. 33-7 is in place for "unintentional" violations. I don't think the 2 strokes had anything to do with when the call came in.

We've just seen the NCAA championship won by a team that pushes the rules as far as they can to see what they can get away with. It seems to me that's what Tiger did. Golf seems less forgiving than other sports. To some it seems draconian and representative of how 'superior' golf considers itself to be compared to other sports. To others it means golf has the guts to stick to it's standards and thus it's a more 'honest' sport. I think there's a few too many rules and that some of them are a bit strange, (such as a bunker that isn't being used as a hazard still being played under hazard rules), but I kind of admire the way the sport insists it's rules be followed. In basketball, the problems is that the enforcement of the rules is too lax.

“I’m a pro now, since ’89,’’ said Ernie Els. “I’ve never seen a guy sign for a scorecard and then come back and play the next day after a rules infringement. It’s as simple as that. Nothing against nobody. The rules of the game is there, and it’s always been there, and this has never happened.’’

Uh...Ernie, thanks for sharing but the reason you've never seen what happened today is that the rule is new. Lol, the ignorance of golfers in the last 24 hours is mind bottling

Is Tiger one of those golfers?

Hey PGA - you do realize every single one of your events is televised and the tournament officials are keeping score correct? Get rid of the stupid rule requiring golfers to keep their own score and risk being penalized if they turn in an incorrect scorecard. I can't think of anything positive that comes from this rule but lots of negative can come from it as we are seeing right now.

And as Bubba Watson said today, how in the hell do the viewers get to call in possible rules violations?! Can you imagine what would have happened if they allowed that in college basketball? All of us would be on the phone. Isn't that why they have officials at the event?
