I think we should give allen one more chance to start

I think they should find a package of plays that fit Allen's skill set and get him in there now and then for a few plays each game. A real simple set of plays. God forbid Hunt gets hurt, Allen will need to be ready. Try to find a play action/long bomb/flea-flicker thingy.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

I'm telling you, I think he starts against Tulane.

He may not start next week but he'll play and he will be an important part of the offense down the road.

Allen just does not have it. The team does not respond to him and there is no future in wasting any more time on him. Hunt has earned the right to play and to play the whole game. If anybody else gets snaps let it be Broyld.

I get that he played against the NW base defense and Wagner etc etc - but he can only play what is on the field and he played well. Allen who had all the first team reps prior to PSU played lousy - really lousy.

Hunt has earned the job and we need to commit to him as our future.

i agree 100%. There was an explicit promise for him to start all year and the team can't reneg (for whatever reason). It's so glaring that Allen shouldn't be starting and is so inferior to Hunt. It's illogical unless there is other factors involved.

Allen has struggled and to be honest I see no reason what so ever to crap on the kid.

What are we supposed to think about Allen? He has played poorly, very poorly. Commenting on that is not crapping on him - it is just what it is. The guy we crapped on apparently was Hunt.

I suppose if you're commenting on how he has played but if it's meant to be a joke, why kick a guy when he's down?

i don't doubt you. but if they don't have a change of heart, they're idiots.

allen was only pretty good against Wagner

His yards per attempt stinks. It stunk against Wagner too. His big arm doesn't do anything for YPA

If Allen were the soph and Hunt were the one year rental, I'd still go with Hunt. Hunt having years in front of him make this a no brainer

Unless they made some stupid promise to a high school kid the way they did with Allen

Not making a joke. Allen has just played so poorly that just about everyone is wondering what the staff saw to give him the nod. Some think he was promised a start of two and some think the coaches just projected his progress incorrectly and some think they were fooled by his OK pedigree. I have no idea what they saw but I do know what we all saw.

What do they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

He may simply be what I call a batting practice hitter. Looks fantastic in the cage but once he's out there facing real pitching he's quite average or worse.

I don't know if he was promised this or that and I understand the excitement for Hunt but my point is that making a thread to mock the kid isn't the thing that I agree with. It's a free internet (well except for the pay side) and anyone and everyone has their opinion and I respect that. I'm just hoping posters don't start making threads to punk on the kid, that's all.

I think the desire to go with Allen has had more to do with making the correct reads and knowing where to go with the ball - he knows the stuff. Problem is, once he gets in the game, all the knowledge isn't translating to making the right reads real time vs a real defense. He stares the receivers down, goes check down too quickly, stays in the pocket too long, etc.

Hunt may not have the same pre-game knowledge (that's where being a soph vs a 5th year senior hurts him) - but the kid is a gamer. Fluid in the pocket, good arm, great eyes. Seems to have some moxie too.

So my guess is that the staff loves the game prep and big arm of Allen and that's the fools gold they've been enticed with. Maybe a promise too? I don't know. But Hunt is the guy, hands down.

To lull opposing defenses into the false sense of security?

Everyone seems worried about what Allen's going through but I still have to wonder what Loeb must be thinking watching this unfold.

Not really bashing Allen, heck I think even Drew himself would 100% understand that Hunt should start Saturday.
who knows what is going to happen, Hunt has not been on the field against a legitimate BCS defense ( NW back ups ) so Im not saying this story is over by a long shot. It would be good for us on the board if it was though.

I'm probably a bit over sensitive over things like this having been a dad who's kid played sports and hearing the vile stuff people say/write...it's just a huge pet peeve of mine.

A promise to start? Can't reneg on it? No offense, friend, but I think that you are the one being illogical.

You're right, and this excuse doesn't hold water, so no one should be throwing it around. Allen played against NW's scrubs too. And he had plenty of time against Wagner to show his wares. For whatever reason he is just not comfortable out there. Hunt earned it on the field. The production doesn't lie. Game, set, match.

Hunt just seems to have a better feel of the defense in the pocket. You can see him step up or side step in the pocket vs Allen being stationary and possibly rushing his throws as result.

Allen very well could be a practice warrior knowing he won't get hit and get a deer in headlights look in games. With 250lb + guys chasing you it would be a natural inclination to do so.

I agree with you but I get the sense that the staff still thinks he's the better overall player.

That's just from some indirect conversation I've had.
