I thought jbs statement was fine after that he was an unmitigated

yes, the joke about hitting the mic. Not jb.

I swear I thought I was watching a Christopher Walken SNL skit about that point that he sort of bobs/weaves and takes a fake cut at the mic!

I'm not a big Boeheim fan but I thought he did a great job, he let his feelings be known and gave his perspective on things. Leave the "no comment" for the Fines.

After saying that he would not get into taking questions about the BF situation, the media barrages him with BF questions. And he answers a number of them. Then out of the blue several; reporters then start asking game questions. I hope they were SU reporters or local guys to help stymie the BF questions. Jb almost looked releived that he could get back to the game. It appeared to take the wind out of the crazed media saliva drooling bunch.

Bob Knight. That guy was throwing chairs and choking kids and he still coached. Yet some are worried JB will get hit for babysitting off the court. Oh Lord

God. Every day I wake up thankful that I am not as negative as ithaca. Such an unhappy person. I have lost my dad and an Aunt this year. I had major surgery. And I have never been as negative about life as the way ithaca is every day on this board. and ye he loves Leach. Until he got here, that is.

Good post. You are an inspiration to us all!!! I have a tear in my eye and here I though we were talking Syracuse sports not making sweeping life generalizations, what a moron.

Assuming that it happens in the 41 acres that I own in the Southern Tier, yes I would.

Anyhoo, away from the fracking (plenty of forums for you guys to discuss that elsewhere), I thought JB did as well as he could. He clearly distanced himself from Paterno vis a vis being some sort of oligarch ruling the community, campus, and program with a single-minded dictatorship. He laid out his thoughts, a rational desire to complete the investigation, and the University chain of command. He was self-effacing and nervous to be sure, but he also made it clear in no uncertain terms that the University, not JAB, are responsible for University-wide decisions. He explained and expounded on his statements, putting them into "context" (his word) for the local media and for the national media present. I've never been in the unfortunate situation of having a long time employee and friend accused of anything so heinous, but from where I sit, he handled the entire thing very well and was largely positive regarding the actual game and their opponent.

Disaster, why he allows people to agitate him, push his buttons, etc is beyond me. He can't keep his freaking mouth shut. He is a classic egomaniac bully, he will wind up getting fired when the really hits the fan.
I thought the statement by JB was great. The man has backbone and conviction.

I noticed that, like 4 or 5 guys started shouting out game questions to shut everyone up.

Yup, loved the cheers he got for his sticking up for a friend comment. People are so hypersensitive they dont stop to think how they would act. Why would he think Davis was telling the truth at all when Davis lied about Boeheim seeing him in Fine's room?

Wasn't a fan of the cheers he got; I don't think the media should be reacting like that. Had a sense that was more the DO reporters, but I of course have no proof of that, didn't seem like it was the whole room. Don't have a problem with JB making that comment, don't get me wrong.

Definitely thought JB was very nervous at times, you could hear it in his voice. He was definitely relieved when he got to talk about the game, it seemed like he almost fell into auto pilot. I'm particularly thinking about the comment about Coach Murphy, where he said he was a player here or something, as well as a coach and recruiter.

Pete Thamel says it was friends and family clapping.

*gulp*

... I agree. Thought it was awful.

yes ithaca, I'm sure you are a pleasure to be around all the time except whem you are talking sports. You're just an unhappy mess at that time. Sure. I feel sad for you. JB is a bully but your hero leach is a great man.

your words not mine, what's Leach have to do with this?

I agree with your first sentence. To me I think he needed to stay on point, not really expound on his statement answer questions about the game (did you notice it seemed the only reporters that asked about the game were very young, likely interns or Daily Orange types). No game questions, then leave. I love JB. I fully support JB and do not feel that he has done anything that should jeopardize his job. I felt he came off a little light-hearted considering the subject matter. Shouldn't have been any smiling or joking or light banter. Just my opinion.

I wonder about his "well see what happened on my watch". Does he have anymore info than we have? He seems pretty damn confident.

That's the statement that worries me. If he's going to take the position that he had no way of knowing what was going on he probably shouldn't describe it as "his watch".

I thought he's been superb in both this and the Colgate news conference but I think his apology for his intial statement needs to be a little more specific, unless he had inside info about Davis and Lang that indicates they were out for $$$. He keeps saying you shuldn't make judgements until the invetigation is over and you have all the facts. If he ahd no specific informaiton that showed that Davis and Lang were on the make, then that's exactly what he did not do.

IB is the self-admitted resident blowhard and definitely sees things in more extreme light than some of us do. But he's been on these boards forever,as has dasher. This isn't about either IB or Dash, it's about the fact that JB is easily baited, and it's about whether his famous loyalty and willingness to rise to the bait will cost him his job in this case.

I'd argue that even if JB said nothing the media would crucify him and his job would be in jeopardy. I commend him for his comments from the perspective of someone who has followed the coverage and watched the entire press conference. But as has been pointed out, the idiot talking heads on TV aren't interested in context, detail, and careful analysis, but rather in salacious headlines, character assassination, and career destruction.

As long as it isn't their own.

good post.

Well joe, you might notice that I took down my response to I.B. for just that reason. This story I thought is too big. It sure isn't about what two posters disagree about.
