Apparently Ohio State, Alabama and to a lesser extent - FSU did not get the message about not being able to recruit studs without ugly modern uniforms.

Of course odds are Oregon comes out in black from head to toe next week but for one night they looked good.

so you are saying that they may go all Nike on us for the championship game and that indicates they like old school for recruiting purposes?

Not enough Orange here !

The first 3 mentioned are National name brands that recruit for themselves. Oregon are Nike's baby and are national known for wearing "modern" uniforms. I bet Nike would even make Orange happen for them if they wanted...

Those were special unis for that game. That's not their green. In the pre-game they called it "apple green" (it was almost day-glo) and they usually have a darker green. My guess is that they'll either wear yellow jerseys and chrome helmets or all black.

Oregon said they would wear the all-whites if Bama won. Now that they are the home team, I bet they wear the same as yesterday to avoid "changing their luck".

I liked the shade of green. Fowler called it Kelly green. Maybe they are inviting Chip back home.

The uni's Oregon wore vs. FSU were awesome. Like the O instead of the feathers on helmet.
The Orange should return to their old uni's with a big CUSE on front of jersey.

Yes, Oregon wore its true colors for the first time in zions while playing in the "Grandaddy Bowl." Clearly, Syracuse will return to the Donovan McNabb uniforms when it next reaches the Orange Bowl, when McNabb last played. Good idea.

Who cares you don't wear them also the uniforms resemble our current level of play. The people who have to wear the uniforms aren't complaining about them.

Unless they are pink and green, they are not traditionally sound "Syracuse". I get so messed up when I watch the radio with pictures box and I see a team playing inside with orange and blue on their outfits. And whats with the weird ear muffs all the coaches wear?

In all seriousness, you could argue that Oregon doesn't play in this NC game if it weren't for the (at the time) radical idea of using uni's as a marketing tool.

Sorry. Oregon is in this game because it built the best facilities in the country and spent the money to recruit (and in some cases buy) players from all over. Uniforms might have gotten some of those players to visit, but the ability to prepare players for the NFL due to facilities/coaching was a bigger draw to get them to commit.

What that story didn't mention is are the schools in the playoff are getting more $ from Nike to wear different uniforms during the game?

Oregon's last two coaches are on the record saying that the approach they took with the uni's was an important step in marketing the program nationally - and to recruits. As with all uni discussions - it's never the main reason for anything - but it is important.

I think you are overstating the impact of the uniforms.

For the last twenty years Oregon has spent millions on infrastructure and coaches - dating back to the decision to hire Rich Brooks.

This has been a process and a function of big money.

The uniforms are clearly a flourish, but the improvement in the program began well before the funky uniforms.

Unfortunately, the SU administration has made the same presumption that your post has made - and because of that we have thrown out a solid and attractive brand.

And Shafer said that the awful SU funky uniforms would help in recruiting.

He said what he was supposed to say.

Yes, it was the amazing amount of money/investment that built the Oregon program.

It was not the uniforms.

Alabama has stuck with a very traditional uniform - the most traditional. And the Tide has won three NCs in the past few years.

Oregon was emerging before Kelly became HC. Remember the Times Square billboard of Harrington? (We know DG was inspired enough to do Orange in the Apple). Before all the funky uniforms, Oregon started winning and scoring lots of points. You know what markets well nationally- going on tv and putting up 40-50 points against other teams.

The uniforms help in the sense that kids know that Nike is going to give them the newest gear, but that's more about Knight's cash investment in the program than anything else.

The Pink and Green thing is pretty meaningless.

It was fleeting and has no bearing upon the Syracuse University Football Tradition - Bill Orange.
